Vehicle Detail

1978 Silver and Black CALIFORNIA BLUE PLATE Mercedes 450sl The Basics: This is an extremely clean 450sl that has lived its entire life in California. Inside and out this is a real beauty. The car has basically new brakes and drives very smooth. This is my personal car that I am selling. I have a clean title. This is an original California Blue Plate Car that has lived its full life in California. Please read all the details and view the pictures. If you have questions please ask. If you live in San Francisco or the Bay Area please contact me and we can arrange a viewing time if you are interested. This is a Silver Mercedes Benz 450sl with black interior. The black interior is very rare and much nicer and cleaner than the most often found blue interior. PLEASE do not make an offer unless you are actually intent on purchasing this car. If you have questions please message me and we can discuss. The car is pick-up only. Take a look at the other 450sl on E-bay. Almost no information or service history. This car is a great deal - you can't buy more car for anywhere near $5,000. Recent Work: July 24, 2016 - The starter was worn out and needed to be replaced. Unfortunately, the flywheel teeth had been worn out and needed replaced as well. This is a pain in that in order to replace the flywheel you must remove then reinstall the engine. This work was just completed at a cost of $1,700. Ugh. the car strarts great now :) March 21, 2016 - The car received brand new front and rear brake pads with new brake hoses and sensors. It also received a brand new brake master cylinder. the total service and parts was just over $1,000. I probably put 1,000 miles on these brakes. All work was completed by a Mercedes specialty shop in San Francisco. Odometer: The cars odometer reads 98,092. The odometer is not currently working and has not worked since I purchased the car in April of 2015. I have driven the car approximately 5,000 miles. That being said I have service records dating back to the original owner as well as the second and thrid owner confirming the mileage of approximately 110,000 miles. See pictures of the paper work - this includes the bill of sale from the original owner since 1978 who sold the car to the second owner in 1998. Interior: The black interior is extremely clean. The seats and headrests are in excellent condition with no rips. The carpeting and dash are super clean. NO CRACKS IN THE DASH! The original Becker Europa II Radio is in excellent condition and works. If interested, the buyer could take the car to a shop and add a bluetooth cord and play directly from their phone (it has an input function). This looks far better than adding an after market stereo that really ruins the beautiful vintage look of the interior. The trunk is also absurdly clean. There is an old spare as well as the original Mercedes Benz tool kit. Electronics: The odometer - as mentioned above - is not working but all other electronics and gauges work. All light switches and lights work. The electric locks and windows all work. The speedometer, clock, oil, rpm, temp and gas gages (including the low gas signal light) all work. The lights, turn signals, fog lights and hazzard lights all function properly. The car blows air but the air conditioner either needs recharged or freon. I live in California and just didn't bother with dealing with the AC. Exterior: Overall, the car is in beautiful condition. The car is straight and looks excellent. All lights and body panels are as they should be. There are a few very small nicks but really not much in way of any imperfections. The drivers side by the door and the drivers side panel on the left of the hood show patina and could really use a touch up/respray. This could be done rather cheaply given the small area but it is noticeable when looked at closely. Some of the hardtop shows this patina as well. The rest of the body paint looks incredible. I haven't waxed the car since I've owned it but it could be brought to look even better. All trim and chrom is very presentable. Problems:The exhaust/muffler is very loud. There is a hole that any muffler place should be able to fix for around $100. Sounds like a muscle car. There is about medium crack in passenger side of the windshield. This could be fixed without replacing the windshield - approximately $150. The odometer and AC (both mentioned in more detail above) do not work but could be fixed. The paint is worn on the drivers side top of door and quarter panel of the drivers side - more details mentioned above. SEE THE LAST TWO PICTURES. Close-up the patina is noticeable but driving down the street it is hard to tell. the steering coupler (small piece inside steering column) is worn and replacing would tighten up the steering. I received an estimate that this would cost $270. These are all small things but I recently redid the whole breaking system, starter and flywheel at a major cost. Ownership/Service History: I have a notebook full of service records as well as the original bill of sale from the 1st owner to the 2nd owner. 1st Owner: purchased the car new and sold it to the 2nd owner in 1998. 2nd Owner: purchased the car in 1998 and owned it until approximately 2003/2004. I have a service invoice with her name on it from January 2003. The next service record from 2004 show the 3rd owner. 3rd Owner: purchased the car sometime in 2003. I have a service record showing them as owner from January 27, 2004. I believe they sold it to the 4th owner in 2014. I purchased the car directly from the 4th owner in April of 2015.
