Vehicle Detail
Christine's older sister?! I have yet to see a more rust free and complete California owned '57 Plymouth 2dr ht project car. I got her through a friend in 1996. Hard to find in any condition even then, especially w all the parts and nice solid floors! I really hate to sell my bad to the bone stock 60 year old Belvedere, but I don't have time to deal w restoring her. She's originally a jade green (teal) and white w matching interior. As for rust. The only rust evident is a tiny spot just ahead of the rt rear wheel well. I'd put it at about 5/8" or so. It is just beginning to show on the drivers side in the same spot. These spots are found underneath where the stainless wheel well guards are to normally go. The guards are included and are off the car like the rest of the stainless trim. The car will look OK w/o them after repainting, but I would replace them w better ones if you want them on. The rest of the rocker panel areas look as rust free as the floors and trunk floor. Beyond that, there is only the usual surface rust on a few areas like you'd find on most cars over 25 yrs old in dry/desert places. There is some on the roof mostly on the drivers side, but no big deal. Sanding and primer will take care of it. There is a few small dents that have been on the car since I got it. The left front fender just ahead of the door and 2 small dents on the roof. All side mouldings, tail fin and rear end trim, rear window trim, emblems, interior handles & window cranks, the whole dash, even a spare tire rim and wheel covers are included. The only missing parts are the bottom portion of the rear seat, & the sheet metal panel below the rear bumper that runs the length of the space between the rear fenders. The chrome bumper skirt that goes in the center of the rear bumper is included. I believe any 57-59 Plymouth or Dodge, and possibly Chrysler and DeSoto sheet metal panel would fit. Other than the back seat bottom and that metal panel the car is all there. The back seats are the same size on 2dr 1957-59 Plymouth & Dodge cars, and a back seat frame should be fairly easy to find. I started the V-8 engine and ran it 2 or 3 times per month until Dec 2010 when the battery died and I never replaced it. The engine sounded good and the push button automatic tranny functioned just fine at the time. The bumpers are straight and were rechromed 20 yrs ago. Although stored indoors in a shed, it wasn't climate controlled. They are still very presentable and I would not get them rechromed yet. The front bumper on the car now is just an extra one and is included free if you want it. I am told the drivers side door came from a '59 Plymouth. I do think it should be replaced with a better one, it's up to you. I'm including the '57 upper & lower stainless trim for when you find a better door. I also have a '57-'58 A-Pillar vent window assembly w glass and some extra pieces for use on the drivers door. I am including some excellent used and NOS parts I have obtained over the past 20 years. See photos. ====>IMPORTANT UPDATE - PLEASE READ!<==== I was in a good mood after the 4th of July and felt like working on this car. Was able to easily wake her up! Spark plugs, carb, points & condensor, fuel pump, Pwr Steering, all seems to be in good working order. Engine sounds strong, just like it did over six and a half years ago! And yup, she still needs a new exhaust system lol! I didn't want to risk fouling up the carb & plugs by trying to run the engine on stale gas well over 6 years old. I cleaned out the fuel line & filter from the pump outlet to the carb inlet and rigged it up to pump gas from a clean tin can. Put water in the radiator, refilled the power steering fluid, and let her idle a bit. Still has the leaky freeze plug. But sure was great to hear that classic Mopar V-8 eagerly come back to life! I will now be including the battery I used (stolen from my '67 Polara) it's about 4 years old but hasn't seen that much use and works perfectly. Hard experience has made me despise weaker, cheaper batteries, so I don't hesitate to spend more for better ones. It's an Auto Zone DuraLast Gold 24-DLG w 750 cold cranking amps & 935 cranking amps. Buying a replacment for my '67 Polara will cost me about 140.00. You just don't see many '57 2 door hardtop survivors that are this solid and complete. Appears to have always been an adult owned car. I believe this is the correct original 301 V-8 engine & optional 3 spd Torqueflite automatic transmission she was born with. Priced to sell with a very competitive LOWER RESERVE! This a rare chance to jump on a solid car that is very seldom available at ANY PRICE! Don't be outbid by a few dollars and regret 'the one that got away' when you had a fair chance here and now! She's a good investment that you can enjoy while rising in value! Good luck and thanks for considering my listing.
