Vehicle Detail
This exceptionally nice CB550F has been in my collection for about 10 years. It is totally stock and original except for service items like tires, fluids and tune up parts. Mechanically it runs extremely well. It starts, stops and handles as it should and as I remember them when they were new. The carbs were done when I first got it along with a rebuild kit for the master cylinder. It has clean oil, new oil filter, plugs and air filter. The engine is tight with no leaks. It starts up from cold with the choke and settles to a 1200 rpm idle when warm. The bike has modern Bridgestone Spitfire 11R tires and is a pleasure to ride. Everything works including the turn signal buzzer. That being said it is a 40 year old piece of equipment and anything could go wrong at any time. However given Honda's superior quality and engineering I would say the new owner of this bike is in for many trouble free miles. I have a previous registration and a clear Mass. title in my name. Cosmetically its very, very good. All the chrome shines nicely; no dents or pitting other than the mirror stems which may or may not be original to the bike. There is no evidence that this bike has ever been down or even dropped. Nothing is bent or twisted. The headlight brackets are perfectly straight and there are no scuff marks on the foot pegs or levers. The factory yellow markings are still on the swing arm bolts, rear axle bolt, rear brake rod and brake lever. There is no pitting on the rims or the brake rotor. The rear brake backing plate, engine side covers and fork sliders could stand to be polished but that's getting really picky. The original paint is beautiful, both side covers are nice and intact-no broken tabs. Only a few marks on the tank down near the front of the seat keep it from being a ten. The inside of the tank is totally clean and has never been coated. The seat cover is very good although there is no Honda logo on the back. I'm not sure it was ever there. The original HM390 muffler is extremely clean; no acid stains, dents or dings. The header pipes are good but there is some discoloration up near the flanges. The side stand and center stand are straight but have the typical paint loss as does the inside of the swing arm where the tire throws dirt against it. The owner's manual is in its compartment under the seat. There is no tool kit. The original Honda flat glass mirrors are clear. You can view a video of the bike on my facebook page @longplainvmc If you are looking for a rideable classic bike this is a good choice. Its big enough to get you to a show, a meet or to take on a VJMC ride with your friends. They only made the 550F for three years and while it is not rare its way past the bottom of its depreciation schedule. Keep it in good condition and it will never be worth less than you paid for it. I have been riding, working on, and collecting bikes for 45 years. I am a retired contractor not a dealer. I rarely sell bikes but this one is a little new for the collection and space is getting tight. I have been a member of the Ebay community since 1999 and have never had a bad transaction either way. My aim is to keep that record intact. Please make sure you want to buy and can pay for this bike before you bid. Ask questions before you bid. Please figure out your own shipping. My reserve is reasonable and I will drop it if the bidding gets close. I cannot offer any warranty on this bike but everything about it tells me its a good one. $500 deposit via paypal within 48 hours. Payment in full within 7 days via bank or personal check. If you are shipping the bike I will send you the title and keys after payment in full. I can store it for up to a month no problem. Thanks for looking.
