Vehicle Detail
I've owned many SL500 but when I saw this one and even though the last thing in the world I needed was another SL I had to get it. Hopefully the photos capture just how nice the very rare green paint is on this car and with the tan interior the car is a standout. In the direct sunlight the paint is stunning and chances are it will be a very long time before you pass another one like it on the highway as this is a very rare paint color, plus it has a matching green top! Tired of seeing the same black, white or silver SL500 advertised, if green is your color this just may be your car. I've had this for about a year and it is time to sell off some cars as it doesn't make sense for them just to sit. This one drives very nicely, handles as it should and has some serious punch very similar to my newer SL500. The A/C is cold, the heat is hot (climate control has one bar out and I will include another one to replace it) and the stereo works though the volume button is a bit temperamental and takes a little getting used to. This SL500 has the coveted AMG/Sport package with upgraded bumpers and side skirts. It looks as it this one rolled over a front parking wedge and is missing the center mesh grille as you can see in the pictures. OEM grill was replaced with an aftermarket. Wheels are in nice shape but have some signs of curbing. Tires are ready to go but they are not new. This is NOT a perfect car but it is an EXCELLENT driver quality car. The paint shines beautifully, very hard to find flaws in it other than assorted tiny rock chips you'd expect on a car of this age and with 119K miles. Convertible top is in excellent shape with clear windows. I did not lock the top down that is why it is in the unfastened position for the pictures. Exterior I'll give a 9 out of 10. The interior is in very nice shape though I can tell the seats and door panels are not a factory color, my guess is they have been dyed and it looks good but just wanted you to be aware of this. Dome light, visors and rearview mirror are in good shape which is rare as they often at this point are cracked or damaged. Passenger door panel has some separation on the top lip. Interior I'll give an 8 out of 10 Engine and transmission perform excellent, mechanically Mercedes is unrivaled. As stated this is a good driver quality car and it is not without some issues. First, the power top pump is working but I can hear one of the cylinders is leaking so that will have to be addressed. Best to have all cylinders rebuilt at the same time or just manually retract the top. I will give you the special top tool that allows you to use the top manually so you can put the top up or down without the use of the hydraulic motor. The driver side window has a sensor issue or it needs adjusting as it needs help going up at times. Motor is good, it just seems "confused" when it is going up. Down it works fine. BAS/ESP and ABS lights came on when I changed the battery. In all it is a very nice car that has the look the SL500 should have, matched with a very nice interior and this car still gets attention when stopped or rolling down the road. Miles are relatively low at 119K. As stated I have had many R129 SLs from 1990-2002, this one is a solid car that is ready to drive anywhere. I'm sure I am forgetting something so please email me with any questions. This is a no reserve auction so high bid wins, or make an offer to buy it now if you don't want to wait. Thanks for looking!
