Vehicle Detail

Up for auction is a 1971 R75/5 with less than 12,000 actual miles which has just completed a bare frame restoration. The bike is a matching numbers European version, VIN #2974525. I purchased this bike last summer with the intent of a full restoration. Mechanically it was in very good condition however cosmetically it had many issues. My focus was to restore this bike to showroom condition which the supplied images will verify. Personally, I have been riding, servicing, repairing, restoring Airheads since 1982 for myself and many others. I have currently logged over 450,000 miles on Airheads. Before my passion for BMW motorcycles, I spent 10 years in the sport of drag racing after which I moved to automotive restorations, mainly muscle cars. All work on this bike, other than the pin striping. was done by myself in my shop. The images tell the story of the work done on this bike, nothing has been neglected or overlooked. The following is a brief list of what has been done. All metal parts have been stripped and refinished in a lacquer finish and hand rubbed. Pin striping was professionally done by Billy Jay from New Palestine, IN. The motor was taken apart to the crankshaft for a thorough inspection, absolutely no issues or concerns. A new rear main seal and oil pump o-ring have been installed. All new gaskets and seals were used for final assembly. Motor has excellent compression of 145psi per cylinder. The transmission was left as is, the fluid and drain plug did not indicate any concerns. I personally believe that what came from the factory is the best that a transmission will ever be. With regular fluid changes, it will be good for at least 50,000 miles. The clutch assembly was thoroughly inspected and well within specs. Carburetor bodies only were sent to Bing for a thorough cleaning, new float valve seats, throttle shafts and blades, and new side plates. I did the final assembly with new floats, gaskets, and seals. I also had Bing install vacuum ports for ease of tuning. Both front and rear wheels have new spokes, bearings, and seals. New period correct Dunlop tires. The bike has a new wiring harness and both handle bar switches are new. The headlight has been upgraded to an HR unit. The charging system from an early /6 has been installed for an improved charging system. The front and rear suspension has been thoroughly inspected and well within specs. New neck bearings have been installed. Splines on the final drive are about 80% which is appropriate for the mileage of the bike. As the images show, virtually everything cosmetically has been replaced. This bike needs absolutely nothing, everything works as it should the day it was born. Included is the factory tool kit, owners manual and tire pump. Also included will be over $5800 worth of receipts related to this build, the original ID tag, and a flash drive with images documenting all worked performed on this project. The bike literally starts at a simple touch of the start button. It rides and handles as it should. All shipping costs are the responsibility of the buyer. International buyers are welcome to bid on this bike. First time eBay buyers, please contact me before placing a bid. I will be happy to answer any questions or concerns you might have. Good luck!
