Vehicle Detail
Jaguar's replacement for the legendary XKE series was the striking XJS coupe, which defined the "Personal Luxury" genre. They were manufactured from the mid-'70s through the mid-'90s, but the most iconic are the early '80s HE models. They had the bugs of the early cars ironed out and had not yet been pimped up by aftermarket cabriolet conversions. The updated "High Efficiency" V-12 engine gave better fuel mileage, fewer emissions and more horsepower, plus the magic of modern fuel injection dramatically enhanced reliability. The signature 'flying buttress' styling around the rear glass was dramatic and the whole car looked low, wide and aggressive. They are a delight to drive, easily accomodate 6-footers and give surprisingly good mileage if driven moderately. Plus, virtually every town has an independent Jaguar shop that can service them. By 'near-exotic' car standards, the cars are absolute bargains...but a poorly maintained or high-mileage one will be a heartbreaker. This car was delivered new at Denver's downtown Jaguar dealer and we have the full packet of owner's books, warranty cards, radio code and informational cassettes that originally came with it. It has never resided anywhere near the rust belt and the body work is completely clean and straight. Jaguar had a problem with lacquer-checking in their factory finishes at the time, so virtually every car was professionally repainted under warranty, including this one. Odometer problems (caused by pushing the trip reset button while moving) also were common and many speedometer heads were replaced under warranty. This one was done at 3,204 and we have the dealer's documentation for it, so the car has a total of a little over 30,000 miles. The car was owned for most of its life by the president of the regional Jaguar Club, and was consequently really pampered, frequently presented at shows (we have many of the judging sheets) driven very little and properly maintained. Earlier this year it was fully tuned and serviced by a Jaguar specialist and received a new set of Michelins. The original spare, jack and tools were never used. We have all the keys, a four-volume set of factory shop manuals and service bulletins plus some period Jaguar marketing materials. The original leather is in very nice shape, plus the headliner, door panels and woodwork are all excellent. The car was never smoked in and still smells very fresh. It was recently traded in to our dealership on a later-model Mercedes and is seriously for sale. Yes, there are plenty of cheaper XJSs out there, but do you really want one with bad paint, high miles and questionable service history? It's always better in the long run to go with the best example of a collector car you can find rather than spending months and thousands rehabilitating a 'bargain' car. Our shop has inspected the car and found one thing that needs attention: the A/C needs to be charged. That's it! The reserve is set low to offset that minor issue. Please note the following:Full payment to be made via bank wire transfer only. Car is sold AS-IS, in Denver, CO--shipping is your task, but we can certainly help arrange it. The car is fully capable of being driven home anywhere in the US. A professional pre-purchase inspection is recommended and will be accomodated, but must be before a sale is made. A 'winning' bid does NOT allow a buyer to then go through his diligence and decide to buy the car or try to secure a loan. If you are the high bidder, or take advantage of the reduced Buy-It-Now option, be prepared to pay in full within five business days. No Paypal deposit is required; just call us up, open a dialogue and let us know your arrangements. Previous experiences with flaky bidders has caused us to adopt these policies. If you have no bidding feedback, CALL first. Of course, if you have any questions about the car, you are welcome to call our sales team of Bill, Tom or Jack at (720) 588-8427. You may also visit the farlandcars website for more pictures and a look at who we are. We have been a licensed dealer in Denver for over 25 years and enjoy a blemish-free reputation. We believe this car will sell to the first serious person who looks at it; it's that nice. Call! (720) 588-8427
