Vehicle Detail
1997 Honda Del Sol DOHC VTEC 1.6L. **THIS IS A VERY RARE CAR** Only 500 of the 1997 models with this engine were sold in the U.S. It won't be long before this car will be considered a collector's item. I am the second owner, I bought it in 2004. Try to find one of these cars for sale and you'll see how rare it is to find one at all, much less in decent shape. It has 130,780 miles on it and that isn't much for a Honda which we know can go strong for at least another 150-200k miles. This is a DOHC VTEC 1.6L B16A2 engine!! It is not the S or SOHC Si model, those don't have the horsepower of the DOHC VTEC and those other models are much more common. It's a 5 speed manual, which is the only way the DOHC VTEC Del Sol was made. The targa top comes off and slides into a storage rack in the trunk. Automatic windows and locks, AC, ABS, cruise control. The back window also goes down. It's a 2-seater, there is no back seat at all. There's a powered Infinity subwoofer in the trunk, I think it's a 10. It has a cold air intake and a stock strut bar on the engine. It also has an old school VIPER Alarm installed. The AC is cold and runs well. I'm not a smoker, so the car smells fine. Timing belt was changed last at 100,000-110,000 miles. The vehicle was lowered about 2" with Tein springs in 2004. I still have the stock springs, those are included in the sale, as well as a $65 car cover. It has some cosmetic flaws that you'd expect for a 20-year-old car. The front bumper has an indented scuff by the Honda badge from when a truck with a tow ball on the back bumped into it and I never got it fixed (see photo). Also, there are a few spots with chipped off paint on the rear bumper (see photo). The spoiler is aftermarket and the clear coat is flaking off of it (I don't have a clear photo of that, but I can take one). I had the skin on the driver's side door replaced. The minor incident on the vehicle history report was a fender bender in 2006. Someone bumped into me and indented the rear bumper on the right side. It popped back out a few days later, but there is some chipping paint still there (see photo). It needs an antenna, it doesn't currently have one. Sometimes the targa top will leak a little on the driver's side in a heavy downpour. This is an issue with all Del Sols. This doesn't seem to be a problem when I'm driving, only if it's parked, so I just keep a towel in there when I hear the weather might get crazy. I hear you can get some sort of seal treatment to remedy this problem. The lighting behind the comfort control panel on the dash comes on and off intermittently. This tells me that there's some sort of loose wire or fuse issue behind there but I haven't taken the time to address it. There was an exhaust leak a few years ago that I got fixed. I also had a new muffler put on. I have had the oil pan gasket replaced as well. The spoiler is aftermarket and the clear coat is flaking off of it. Easy fix - get the spoiler painted or have a new one put on. It has some scuffs on the lip under the front bumper that are not visible unless you get down the ground and look (see photos). It has been maintained by a Honda mechanic pretty much the whole time I've owned it. The car has been taken care of. I hope it goes to someone who will take care of it and love it as much as I have. I'm truly going to miss this car, it has been very dependable. It gets a lot of attention and it drives like a go-cart on the highway! Please feel free to ask me any questions. **In case you have been following this car on Ebay, this is the third auction. The person who won the original auction backed out of the sale due to an unexpected family financial burden. I was told by several Del Sol gurus that it was worth more than I was asking for it, so I listed it again at a higher price, but got no bids. So here I've listed it again and have reduced the price. Hopefully it'll work out this time. Thanks for looking!**
