Vehicle Detail
According to some this was the 'Best Year Ever' built of the legendary K100's (flying bricks). I have owned this bike from 32K until now and I would agree with the accolades. If you're a BMW afficionado you know that the Germans made this bike with a six digit odometer for a reason. There are many documented cases of K-bikes running over 200K miles. Don't let the mileage fool you, this bike still runs very well for its age. That being said, it's not a beauty queen and I don't expect to sell it for a premium.... This motorcycle is available at NO RESERVE, so it will sell to the highest bidder. Please bid freely and understand if you win that you are entering into a contract of sale for this motorcycle. Please DO NOT bid if you are not interested in owning this classic piece of BMW history. The Good:-The bike has a custom Ray Randolph touring tank (look it up) with an 8 gallon capacity (a $500 value alone). -The bike has been maintained since it has been in my ownership. And I have a log of all major/minor services. I am a former BMW tech and always change the oil (synthetic) every 3K miles. -The splines have been lubricated every 20K at it's major service interval.-The valves have been checked and were within specification-The driveshaft was replaced at 109K-At 125K the gearbox was replaced with a used one that had 33K miles on it and the rear main seal was replaced during the repair-All moving parts have been lubricated at regular service intervals-Brake pads have 75% thickness -Rear tire has 70% life left The Bad:-Needs a new front tire (I wouldn't drive this bike more than 100miles on the tire that's currently on it).-The electric windshield stopped working and I removed the motor for inspection, but never fixed it. For someone of my height, 5'9" it offered excellent wind protection without the electrics option -The radiator cooling fan has expired. It quit working on my last ride of the year in 2015. -Saddlebags have bungee chords b/c they would fall off without being strapped to the frame-There is a crack in the headlight glass, but the high/low beam work fine-Battery is new last year, but it's not a direct fit. The Ugly-Seat will need to be replaced/refurbished (it's still comfy, but ugly)-Custom paint job w/ reflective German colors isn't for everyone, but I appreciate the visibility-It's a 30+ year old bike with 147k miles!?! I cannot help with transportation, but will help someone with pickup at the airport if they choose to fly in to ALB and ride home. I cannot trailer the bike anywhere, but will help load it if you want to come pick it up in Schenectady. If you want to order a front tire -in the hopes of replacing the tire and riding this bike home, you can ship it to my home- Message me for the address. Good luck!
