Click the link below to view more images and details of the car: BMW Photos This 1970 BMW 2002 is a completely stock, largely original car, right down to the steel wheels and hubcaps. It is a lifelong New Mexico car, and was sold new to a doctor in 1970. The car has remained in New Mexico since then. The paint is an older respray that still shines but shows its age with thin areas, door dings, and rust bubbles. The engine runs strong and has new new spark plugs and a new fuel pump. At some point in its history, the original carb was replaced with a better performing Weber 32/36 DGV. The carburetor was just rebuilt. The engine has fresh oil and a new oil filter. Body: The body is in nice condition, but does have rust showing along the lower fenders and rear arches. An area of the passenger side rear arch is rusted through. The outside of the trunk also shows rust along the chrome trim. There is evidence of body filler in the rear taillight panel and trunk fitment is not great. The spare tire well is rusted through. Floor boards look good and the shock towers are in great shape. Overall, the body is completely fixable with some some good metal work. Interior: Has original German square weave carpet, which is dirty but in decent shape except the driver's side, which is worn through. The seats are torn and need to be reupholstered. Dash is dried and cracked. All interior panels are original and present but will need restoring. Headliner is stained and torn. The car has a factory sunroof that opens and closes, though it does stick occasionally. Drivetrain: Engine feels strong but emits some white smoke. This has reduced some as the car has been driven, but there is probably some wear on the internal components. The four speed automatic transmission doesn't slip, but it does not down shift correctly, suggesting an improperly adjusted linkage. The transmission does work well with the manual shift selector in 1, 2 and Drive. Even with the auto, the car to be surprisingly fun to drive. Suspension: The suspension feels soft, but not particularly loose and still handles well. Brakes work fine but have a a hard pedal and should be gone through. The tires hold air but are older and should be replaced for daily driving. Trim and glass: Chrome trim is in nice condition, though side mounding have many dings. Bumpers are in pretty nice shape, but the rear bumper has a dent in it. Trim around the lights is in good shape. The front kidney grille is complete but dinged up. Glass is in nice condition except for the passenger side window which is scratched. Windshield is not cracked but shows some pitting and slight delamination at the corners. Weatherstripping and seals are dried out throughout the car. Electrics: Horn doesn't work, only one brake light and one reverse light work. Headlights work, but not brights. Taillights work, as well as turn signals and hazards. The windshield wipers don't work and neither does the horn. Overall: This is a running, driving project car that is a perfect base for a comprehensive restoration or a custom build. It includes the original owners manual, service manual, and the original toolkit with most of the tools. The title is clear. Mileage us unknown, as the odometer is not functioning.
