Vehicle Detail
Up for sale is my 1998 BMW R1100RT-P (Police) w/ 63k miles. This BMW came from a small NJ municipal department where it was well maintained by Cross Country BMW in Metuchen, NJ. Since that time, it has been garage kept and minimally used. I bought the bike from a coworker. I am now the 3rd owner if you count the original Police Dept. I have owned the bike for approximately 3 years. It is all original minus the Givi tanklock bag I have added which can be easily removed. I have also added a battery tender. What I like about this bike is that it is the perfect base for turning into a long distance rider. It has items like an extra battery (separate from the starting battery) and larger alternator to power all your extra long distance electronics. Also, the running gear is a little taller. See all the specifications here. Many say these are some of the best handling bikes ever made and it is not uncommon for these BMW boxer motors to reliably last into the 200k mileage range and beyond. It has several outlets for hooking up heated gear and also a motorized windscreen that does a great job of blocking the wind. It really is a comfortable bike for long distances. This BMW works well with no issues. I would not hesitate to ride it anywhere. While it is in good shape, please recognize that it does have a few scratches from its time as an enforcement motor. It is currently tagged and insured in the state of Delaware. I also have all the original Police equipment that came with this bike however I would have no idea how to get it working again. The parts are there and wiring diagrams are readily available online, if that's what you're looking to do. Please check the laws in your state if you do plan on making it enforcement ready. Additionally, there are companies that sell the rear seat and underlying components to make this into a standard two up touring bike. The reserve is only a few hundred more than my listing price so this should reflect the minimums I am willing to accept. Please don't waste my time by asking if I'll accept a full thousand below my starting price. That is just ridiculous. I am interested to see it go to a new caretaker but not desperate. I can deliver within a reasonable distance (1 days drive) from Wilmington, DE using my truck and a trailer for a small fee (basically the cost of gas and the trailer rental) Further distances are open to discussion on a case by case basis. Of course, weather permitting, flying in to Philadelphia and riding out are always an option. I am only 30 minutes away and can pick you up. I am looking to sell due to having too many projects and wanting to move to a smaller home. Thanks for looking!
