Vehicle Detail

1928 Ford Model A Tudor History of this Model A When Henry Ford stated production of the 28 Model A he had a lot of parts left from the 27 T and he never wasted anything so he used them on the first 28 A’s. What this meant was that the first 28 A’s had a few things that were used that set them apart from the rest of the 28 A’s. First off they had a left hand emergency brake handle near the driver’s door, because of this thirty six states would not allow them to be sold in their states. One state that allowed them in was Arizona, the state told Ford not to put identification numbers on them that the state would do that when they were to be licensed there. This is a car is one that has an Arizona identification number, I have the Arizona 1928 license plate. This A also has the red steering wheel and the red pedal covers that the 27 T had. I have the optional luggage rack that bolts to the rear of the frame. Does this make this car RARE in some people’s eyes yes in others maybe. When I got the car someone had started to remove things I presume to restore it or just make a driver out of it. What I have done to it while I have owned it, when I first got it home my first concern was getting it to run, I got the engine free and turning over by hand. I drained the oil pulled the oil pan off and removed the oil pump and rebuilt it so I was sure it would get oil once started. Put fresh oil into it along with new points and condenser, fresh gas, battery. Got inside and pulled the choke and hit the starter pedal and to my surprise it fired up, it ran rough for a few minutes and with some adjustments I got it run fairly smooth for an A. After running it for a while I discovered that it had a massive oil leak at the rear main seal. Doing some research I found that the engine does not have a seal like modern engines and to fix it would require some machine work to get that leak stopped or to what Ford deems acceptable. I decided to pull the engine and install a rebuilt engine that was machined to change from babbitt bearings on the mains and rods to insert bearings. Knowing what it would mean to a collector to have the original engine I kept it so it will go with the car when I sell it. I purchased a remanufactured short block from a shop in Illinois and while I waited for it I took off the head and had it machined in a local shop to be sure it was true. During that time I also rebuilt the water pump, distributor and starter and the generator I also redid the brakes and installed modern shocks on it, installed a new amp gauge and oil pressure and water temp gauges. Before installing everything back in the car I installed what is called an engine float kit that helps keep the engine vibration down. After having everything back into the car and running great I discovered that the engine was overheating so I found a shop that could clean out the radiator and give it the cooling it needed. While I waited for the radiator bought other parts and installed them such as a new carburetor other items that made the A whole again. Lamp kits, wiring kits so I had new wires to work with. It surprises me that most every part is out there to build one from the ground up. The car is mostly complete now with very little missing. The tires on the car are weather checked but hold air. The interior is all there and serviceable could it use some update probably but I’ll leave that to the next owner. It is licensed and titled in SC and I drive it on good days when I am home. I have boxes of parts that go with the car some of which have been rebuilt. My passion is hunting and I am gone a lot doing that. I have enjoyed working on this car bringing it back to life and that’s is kind of my therapy working with my hands and since this car is so simple to work on I have enjoyed it greatly but it is time to move on to a new project for me. I will include pictures of the car. If anyone wishes to talk to me about the car or see it please feel free to call me at 843-424-1515 Jack (Myrtle Beach SC) On Jan-15-16 at 05:06:08 PST, seller added the following information: I reserve the right to end this auction early due to the car being for sale locally. On Jan-19-16 at 11:17:09 PST, seller added the following information: Reserve has been lowered !! as of 1/19/2016 at 2pm EST
