The Volkswagen Karmann Ghia was a sports car marketed as a 2+2 convertible starting in 1958. The car was styled by Luigi Segre of the Italian carrozzeria Ghia in Turin Italy and hand-built voluptuous bodywork by the German coach-builder Karmann for the Volkswagen company. American industrial designer Walter Dorwin Teague included the Karmann Ghia in his list of the world's most beautifully designed products. The convertibles produced from 1962 and 1969 where roughly 5,000 a year, making these few survivors a rare collectible. The end result was a low-slung 2+2 with great style and pizzazz. This car has been very reliable and its styling makes it recognizable in every town in America and it is enjoying a very strong appreciation amongst collectors.
