Vehicle Detail
Up for auction is my 1969 Mustang Grande with 47,900 K original miles. I purchased this car on ebay in spring of 2002 from a seller in Kansas City, Mo. who had owned it for several years. He had purchased it from the original owner, a family relative who passed. The original owner was a military officer that had purchased the car in Florida where the car spent most of its life. I then drove the car from KC to Vernal Utah with no problems and parked it inside my shop where it has always been stored. The alignment is true and there are no issues with the front end. There is no indication of ever being wrecked or body rust any where. I inspected the trunk area underneath the matting as well as the floor pans underneath the factory carpeting and there is no rust at all. In fact, the under carriage had been coated with rhino protectant before I purchased the car. The wind shield is in very good condition and the side windows are with out any scratches what so ever. The rear window is in very good condition as well. The rear window shelf has minor fading. The vinyl top was replaced in KC and it does have an indentation over the driver side door about 3 or 4 inches in circumference. It really is not that noticeable. It also has a tiny tear in one spot, but again, hardly noticeable. All the stainless chrome is in very good condition but could be reconditioned to get that new shine look back. The rocker panel stainless trim and the mustang emblems on both sides are new as is the pony emblem on the front grill. Lights, horn, turn signals, heater and manual brakes are A+. Headliner does show some separation in one seam towards the windshield. The carpet is original and in good condition and includes some very nice custom floor matts that are not in the pictures. Heater core and tires had all been replaced in KC by the seller. I basically stored it for the first few years but did re-chrome the OEM front and rear bumpers and bought a new OEM dash in 2004. I had the car repainted with single stage factory color in 2006. The engine hood has one little place about the size of a nickel that had peeled or been chipped but we painted over it because we never really noticed it until after the fact. It is hard to see unless you are looking hard for defects or know it was there. There are no door dings or scratches along either side of this coupe, In 2009 I ran into a great little mechanic that was very familiar with vintage mustang restoration. We made a trade and spent many hours (days) restoring mostly the engine. After doing a full assessment of the car we believe the car was all original and the miles were totally correct from every indicator possible. The compression on cylinder heads are perfectly fine, the 351 Windsor engine never showed any signs of blow by or was using any oil to speak of. It ran and sounded perfectly normal before the restoration and runs and sounds even better after the restoration. We replaced all seals and gaskets, new water pump, fuel pump, belts, hoses, power steering hose's, plugs, plug wires, distributer, points, rebuild the 4 four barrel autolite carburetor, repack wheel bearings, replace rear end oil, sand blast valve covers and air filter covers, exhaust manifolds, hood hinges and paint them with original Ford blue, black and silver colors, put it all back together. The AC compressor is good but there is still a small leak in the system will not hold a charge. We pulled the engine out and quickly realized that freeze plugs were all rusted and needed replaced. We loaded the car and the engine onto his wrecker and took it to the car wash and blasted the engine and engine compartment with degreaser and soap water under pressure. As the work progressed he suggested putting an oversized cam shaft in it to pep it up a bit and boy, did it! We went ahead and replaced the timing chain and gear with a higher performance parts for the new cam shaft. We also replaced the original exhaust pipes and muffler with high performance ones. We replaced the battery tray which was corroded with whole new one. The FMX automatic 3 speed transmission was completely serviced and replaced the filter and pan gasket. Tranny shifts perfectly, no slippage and will screech the tires in second and third gear when you jump on the accelerator. The new dash was dyed with original factory color and installed with original am radio and speaker. Radio does work but could use a new speaker. All gauges and electrical work as they should except for the clock, apparently it stopped working and made note of it when I had the car out last Saturday. The new wheel covers are OEM replications that replaced the original fade ones. In short, this car is turn key ready! It looks beautiful, runs and sounds fantastic and was restored as close as possible to the factory look. This classic car is not perfect and it will probably not win any trophies at the car show but it is a driver that will turn heads. Keep in mind, there were only around 22000 made in this year and because they had the deluxe interior and many parts were interchangeable, many were used to restore Mach1's and then crushed. You really do not see them very much. I would like to say that the only reason I am selling is to make shop space available for a 1969 Ford LTD restoration that is a complete replica of the car my mother had when I was growing up. However, I do realize that this is out of season to be selling a car and willing to take considerably less for it than I have invested in it. With that said, I am also willing to work with buyer on storing the car for a reasonable period of time until shipping can be arranged. If you have any questions please call 435-790-7861 my name is Keith. Thank you for your interest. On Dec-18-15 at 18:32:45 PST, seller added the following information:
