Vehicle Detail
For sale is a 1988 VW Westfalia camper van with the 2.1 L engine and a 4-speed manual transmission. According to Go Westy "1986-1991: These are the best of the Vanagons." Of these the 88 to 91 versions have the improved 2.1 L engine, improved cooling system and fuel injection system. If you're going to buy a Westy these are the years to look for. Background: There are approx. 63,250 miles showing on the odometer, but I don't think this is accurate even though the previous owner claimed low milage. I bought this van in April in Miami, FL with the intention of driving to Ca and doing some camping while I worked 2 travel jobs. This van had sat for a while before I purchased her, and during my driving I've cleared the cobwebs and she's now running great. The previous owner used to take the van beach camping in Key West, FL and as a result there is a moderate amount of rust. Before I left FL I ground out both areas above the rear wheels and applied fiberglass. I also cut out the left rocker panel and mechanically fasted a new panel from Van Cafe. These were quick and dirty repairs just to get on the road, and should be professionally addressed at some point. (see before/after pics) Also the previous owner had removed the refrigerator, the left rear cabinets and lowered the side cabinet aft of the stove / sink unit. These can be rebuilt to spec, but you also have the opportunity to customize it to your liking. The Bad: Some rust around the lower front windshield, a dent along the bottom of the sliding door and rust at front floor pan. Bad right front shock. Missing radio and antenna. A power steering hose has a slow leak. Some small exhaust leaks. The Good:The van is running great and cruises comfortably at 70. The seat fabric is in nice condition as is the upper bed fabric and the pop top canvas. All gauges work fine. These vans are appreciating like crazy!New parts / repairs since May:New starterGo Westy Fuel tank seal kit, hard plastic fuel lines, in-tank fuel level sender and fuel filterNew shifter linkageNew paint on Pop-top and luggage rackNew Pop-Top seal from Van CafeNew spark plugs, wires, dist. cap and rotor.New distributer, ignition and fuel pump relaysNew sink water pump and Shurflo faucet from Van CafeNew fresh water hose for the sinkNew Skylight vent from Van CafeNew Alt., PS, and A/C beltsThis is a fun turn key camper that you can restore at your leisure, and most likely make a profit. Thanks for your interest,Ken
