Vehicle Detail

Mondial in the 1950’s was a dominant force in European racing, winning multiple Moto Giros and many European titles. The overhead cam engine in the 175 Turismo Veloce made it, as the name implies, Mondial’s most sporting road machine of the day. Today, Mondials are quite difficult to come by, being significantly rarer than contemporary Ducatis, Morinis and MVs. Examples may be found in some of the finest motorcycle collections in the world. This is a largely original 175TV. I believe the frame may have been repainted and the headlight rim rechromed. Other than that I have polished and detailed it carefully. The tires, of course, have been changed but they are Italian made Pirellis in the original size and pattern. The tank, fenders and seat appear original and are in great shape with only a small scrape on the lower front fender that has been painted over and is difficult to see. There is a broken fin on the cylinder. The only other cosmetic issue I have found is the speedometer glass is cracked and the cable is missing. In all it is in really remarkable condition overall. I have been told there are only four 175TVs in the US, and that this is the only unrestored example. The motorcycle was brought into the US about eight years ago to be part of a collection on display in Maryland. I bought it in 2012. It had been sitting for some time but was reputed to have been running earlier (yes, we’ve all heard that before). When purchased it did not run but turned over with compression. There was some rust in the tank so I used the electrolysis method to clean it out. I also sourced the British battery box; it holds a standard Yuasa battery and perfectly replicates the no longer available original Italian battery. Other than that, I cleaned, polished and detailed everything before turning to the motor. Looking into the non-start issue, I found the points cam was badly damaged. I had a new one machined, but never got around to installing it. I am primarily interested in Bultacos, of which I have several. I got into the restoration of a trials bike and the Mondial sat. I realize now that, with other Bultaco projects pending, I am not going to get back to the Mondial and that it is best to pass it on to someone with a greater affection for these Italian gems. Along with the bike I have a few other valuable extras that will be included: 1. The original Italian license plate. Old Italian plates are incredibly difficult to come by as they stay with the vehicle forever. I also have copies of the Italian papers for this bike and plate. 2. Quite a few electronic documents including the user and parts manual, and useful contacts in the small but fervent Mondial community. 3. A matted and framed 17x24 art print of an original Mondial 1950’s poster. 4. Not to be forgotten is a Florida title in my name. Many, many rare, old bikes do not have titles. I went to some trouble to get a clean title. Please note this is a no reserve auction, the opening bid is thousands less than I paid for the bike, not to mention the cost of transport, titling, and machine work. Why? Because it’s not doing me, the bike, or the prospective buyer any good lying about my workshop, and I’d like to see it find a better caretaker. I am always looking for Bultacos. If you have any model, but especially an M8 Metralla, M11 Metisse, or M16/M26 Matador, please let me know, we might well be able to work a trade. I have done my best in photos and words to describe this motorcycle. I urge interested parties to examine the photos carefully, ask questions, or come over and see it. As you would expect this is an as-is, where-is sale. I won’t crate or ship the bike, but will otherwise assist as much as possible in expediting the transfer. If you have less than 10 positive feedbacks on ebay, please contact me before bidding. Normal 0 false false false EN-US X-NONE X-NONE
