Vehicle Detail
Offered for sale here is a blue, one-owner, 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited w/the optional 4.7L V8 engine. I am the original owner, and I’m a middle-aged college professor, and so you can make your own assessment as to whether I have driven the car’s 150,000 miles “hard” or “easy.” I have also used only the highest octane gas available and had done ALL of the recommended maintenance per the owner’s manual. I have the service records to prove it, so let me know if you want to see them. This means I’ve had done, multiple times, things like lubricating ball joints, flushing the differentials, cleaning the brake pins, etc., etc., etc. I’ve done it all, and all when the manual has said it should be done. My mechanic loves me (he may think I’m crazy for doing preventive maintenance far above and beyond what the typical owner would do…but he loves me). I've posted 24 pictures here on eBay - the maximum number allowed @ the standard pricing. I've also posted a video on YouTube, and you can look @ that here: https://youtu.be/T6mtAzREopM Yep, it does have 150,000 miles on it. It was my daily driver in Chicago for years, but also a significant portion of this mileage is highway. I drove Jeepy between Connecticut and Chicago probably 12 times between 2006 and 2009, so that’s probably 17,500 of the total 150,000 right there. Then, in the past year I have driven her probably 20 times to from Chicago to Northern Wisconsin, so that’s another 15,000 miles of highway driving right there. Add in 5 or 6 trips to from Chicago to Northern Minnesota for another several thousand…you get the idea. Lots of daily, city driving, but also lots of highway mileage. I’d say probably 50/50. I don’t recall ever having had a major issue w/this vehicle. No major accidents, though a couple of fender benders over the years. The most major repair I recall is actually from earlier this year, when I replaced a leaking radiator. That was about $500. But, here again, I knew when that problem arose that I would be selling Jeepy, but I replaced the radiator rather than dropping those lead pellets into it to seal the leak only for you to have the problem later. Nope. I fixed it right. It has an aftermarket trailer hitch on it. I’ve done SOME towing, but not a lot. For about 1.5 years I had a small utility trailer that I’d occasionally use to move a couch, or something – and once I used it to take my motorcycle on vacation (about 1,500 miles of highway driving, with trailer holding motorcycle, there). For the past year, I’ve had a 17’ boat that weighs about 2,500 pounds, and I’ve towed that boat to and from the dealer and the public boat launch on the lake where my summer cabin is, a half dozen or so times. Finally, I used Jeepy to get a bunch of furniture from Chicago up TO that cabin, so that’s probably 7 or 8 trips of 350 miles each w/a trailer full of furniture. That’s pretty much its complete towing history. Like I said, some, but not a lot. Rust? Mmmmmm, a little, but not much. Underneath one of the window strips I’ll bet it’s rusting, because the strip is raised and uneven. Also in front of the rear wheel wells a little bit. But that’s it. Nothing more. There are about 60,000 miles on the current tires. I was surprised @ this when I went to the records to check, because the tires look to me like they have a lot of wear left on them. But that’s what my records says. So, I suppose the tires will need to be replaced soon. I’ve described a great car here, right? Yep. This SUV is a TROOPER. The only “negative” is, make no mistake, Jeepy HAS been driven. 150,000 miles worth. So, she has the bumps and scrapes that one might expect. I’m listing them here, to the best of my ability: * The driver door armrest was dried and cracked. It was irritating to my elbow, so I “fixed” it with vinyl repair. Admittedly, I did not do a good job on this. I didn’t try to match the color, or do anything much more than just make it comfortably functional again. Cut out the damaged piece, put cloth in it and poured on clear vinyl repair. It’s functional now, but certainly couldn’t be called “pretty. * I live in a loft building that has very tight parking spaces. On occasion, I have scraped a post or 2. * When using the trailer to tow the boat in the past year, I’ve occasionally backed up into the trailer a little too hard, resulting in scratches on the rear bumper. Alas, it’s now time for me to move on from Jeepy. This week, I bought Jeepy II – same make and model, but a 2015 model and a new color. I’ll tell you what: the Grand Cherokee is designed so well that they really haven’t changed it much in the 13 years since I bought the original Jeepy. Same functionality – even the buttons for certain functionalities in the same places. So, as much as I hate to see her go, I’m selling Jeepy here. Bluebook value in a private party transaction on Jeepy, in “good” condition (which is my estimation of what she is) is $4,000. I’ve set the reserve far below that. I just want Jeepy to go to a good home. Will that home be your driveway?? Have fun bidding to find out!! WINNER MUST PAY $500 WITHIN 48 HOURS OF CLOSE OF AUCTION. BALANCE TO BE PAID PRIOR TO OR AT DELIVERY. ALSO FOR SALE LOCALLY, AND SO RIGHT IS RESERVED TO END AUCTION EARLY.
