Vehicle Detail
Hello EBay users! LAST PRICE CUT! If it doesn't sell this time it goes to Barrett-Jackson next year! I am listing my 1963 220SE coupe for sale. This car has a LOT of history and I took my time when I purchased it to find the right one. I have owned the car for two and a half years. This car is in really nice shape for its age. I am selling it because I was diagnosed with an illness in 2013 and I have too many classic Mercedes to maintain. I like simple cars, and this one has crank windows, no sunroof, no power steering, a 4-speed floor shift manual transmission, and came from the factory without A/C. Even though I live in Arizona with the windows down the car is a blast to drive. Only on the hottest days (120 degrees) would I be discouraged from driving it. Starting with the exterior items, the car was repainted at some point in its half century of history. I think the repaint is a little old, but it is holding up pretty well. The car looks fabulous from five feet away. Most of the chrome is in nice condition, but there are random areas with pitting. The window seals are probably original. The antenna for the radio is non functional. The tires have lots of tread but should be replaced. The engine starts and runs well first time every time. The car has never left me stranded. The transmission shifts well, and the clutch feels great. I would replace the hoses and flush the coolant loop at some point. The brakes work well, but I need to make an important aside for those unaware. This coupe left the factory with a single circuit master cylinder and a remote brake booster. This is how all of them were at that time. What that means is that all four brake lines feed from the same circuit. If a leak springs anywhere in the brake system, only the emergency brake is left. The brake system can EASILY be converted to a dual circuit system which all Mercedes had after 1963. That was the year they switched over from single circuits. Moving on to the interior, the seat leather is in surprisingly good condition as shown in the photos. The wood on the dash is slightly dried out, but not as disastrously ugly as some of the Mercedes I have seen on eBay. The radio has never worked and I have not bothered replacing it. The original white steering wheel has a couple cracks and some crazing, then again it's over a half century old. Overall this car is a really nice survivor that I never got around to restoring. I took lots of trips around town in "as is" condition and thoroughly enjoyed the car. An interesting note, the windows have little stickers from each country visited by the original owner when they toured Europe after picking up the coupe. There is a LOT of paperwork documenting this cars history, and it saw nearly all of Europe when it was very young. If you want a car to take to shows that has lots of history, this is the one to buy! With a little effort it will be a gleaming show car that looks as good as it drives. If you have any questions please contact me and I will reply as soon as I can. Buyer is responsible for arranging and paying for shipping. I encourage you to ship this car to its final destination because though it is in fantastic original condition it IS a FIFTY TWO year old car and I have never taken it on a long road trip. I have made every effort to describe the car to the best of my ability and believe the photos speak for themselves regarding the condition this car is in. I am offering this beauty at no reserve and payment is due within seven days of auction end. I will accept a cashiers check, or cash in person. Deposit is due within 24 hours of auction end through PayPal. Sales to US only, NO trades.
