1970 Plymouth Suburban ex Fire Chief - very originalI bought this wagon 7 or 8 years ago out of Nebraska. I am told it was a fire chief car in that state There are labels on the dash with call letters car number etc. Red '70 Furys/Suburbans are real scarce. I have never seen another red wagon and only 3 Furys in scorch red. It runs, drives, and stops as it should. With the exception of the front valance the paint is original. There is no bondo in the car. The carb has been re built and the motor tuned up with new plugs, cap, rotor and wires. The 383 2 bbl has been converted to electronic ignition. It has power steering and power drum brakes, 727 transmission and 8 3/4 rear end. It also has front sway bar. The red paint is very thin in spots and faded as 45 year old red paint will do. There are plenty of nicks and some dents. Front fenders are not rusted, but both rear quarter panels are. The "trunk" extensions are good on both quarters as well as the bottom seam of the quarters. The luggage well has no rust through, just a bit of surface rust. There are a couple of rust holes in the spare tire well probably from rain getting in at the whip antenna mount site. All doors are rust free. Biggest dents are in the drivers front fender and the hood. All doors are good. Back seat is perfect as is the upright of the front seat. Only the textured area of the front seat bottom will need to be redone. SMS has the material available. The rubber floor mat is the nicest I have ever seen in a 70 police car or Fury 1. The only damage I can see are a couple of holes in the rear floor behind the driver. I am thinking the Motorola radio may have been mounted here. There are 3 holes in the roof and a wear ring from where the "gumball" would have been attached. There is some overspray around the area where the mounting holes were repaired. There is also some paint overspray on the tops of each front fender. When I got the car it had a gold Fury hood that had been painted red. I am thinking when the hood was replaced the front fender tops were painted at the same time to match the shade of the new hood. The paint was flaking off the hood so I replaced it with the scorch red hood off a red Fury 3 that had all original paint. That hood came from a Colorado car. That is why you do not see 383 call outs on the hood bulges. Those 383 call outs are included. Also included is the clip to hold down the whip antenna on the passenger side. I replaced both front fender extensions when I transferred the hood from the Co car as the fender extension were damaged on the wagon. Also the grill was replaced as it was really bent up. The replacement grill on the car is not the best. The front valance was really mangled. I had a blue one that was decent so I rattle can painted it and that is what is on the front of the car. I have some parts that I have gathered that are available for sale separately. They include a better grill, a perfect rear bumper, a better hood (not red though) etc. I also have a parts car wagon. The plastic in the interior is pretty aged. It is very chalky in areas. The parts car could donate some of these parts but they would be green. Note in the cargo area the panel covering the gas tank on the drivers side, has been replaced. It is a darker. color.
