Vehicle Detail
We are looking to find a new home for our lovely Series 3 Sunbeam that we have named Sophie. She was a present to my wife but too many projects got in the way. We almost never take her out and she has mostly remained in storage. After a long search we finally found a Series 3 car as it was the lowest production Alpine, but has the tall fins of early cars, with features of the newer cars such as better seats and a larger boot space. Sophie is an older restoration, having been done several years ago. She looks great and is holding up very well on the whole. The following, we were told, was done previously as part of the restoration.. New paint of good quality, including engine removal to facilitate painting of the engine compartment. Doors, bonnet, and boot removed Conversion from the troublesome twin carburettor set up to a single carburettor. She gets better gas mileage, is much more reliable, easy to adjust, has more horsepower, and runs and idles incredibly smoothly compared to the stock twin carbs. Engine was rebuilt New wood dash New Dash Pad Lots of electrics redone, including wiring so as to make all gauges functional Complete brake system refurbishment including new hydraulics and adjustable brake proportioning system Mallory electronic distributor for smooth trouble free running/starting High performance ignition wires and electric fuel pump with fuel pressure regulator Complete radiator and cooling system refurbishment. New chrome wire wheels, hubs, and knock offs New tires New carpet and door cardsRechromed BumpersSince we have owned her we have done the following:New convertible top Partial refurbishment of one of the seats including new foam and vinyl Replacement of some of the rubber and few pieces of bright work that were either missing or not of good enough condition.Sophie runs like a dream, shifts quietly, and does not smoke. All the gauges work. The body and paint still look great and have held up well save for a few bubbles here and there and a few chips as well. The under carriage looks to be detailed to a driver standard as well. The steering seems rather loose to us, but were unsure if that is just the way these cars were originally. We purchased a steering box for her in case that is needed for stiffer steering, but are leaving that to her new owner. The seats are in good condition, the passenger seat top is a little worn and has a couple of patches on the back side that are not that noticeable. Overall Sophie is a terrific looker that should provide a lot of driving pleasure. We have made every attempt at a careful description, please note that this car is over 50 years old, and is not perfect, so please be realistic as to expectations. Inspections are welcome but must be carried out prior to the end of the auction. Please read all the auction deadlines and terms before bidding. Thanks for looking!
