This 1926 Ford Model T Tudor was found in a barn just outside of Mentor, KS where it had been stored for over 65 years. It was purchased in 1947 by a local Doctor to have as just an extra vehicle around the farmstead (his son thought one of the neighbors probably needed money and he just bought it to help them out) and subsequently just parked in the corner of the barn and never used. In the fall of 2012 I was at the farm inspecting another vehicle when I noticed this one in the corner surrounded by boxes and the Doctors old equipment saved from the practice. I was able to buy the car and finally remove it from its corner over Thanksgiving of 2012. Upon getting it back to my shop I set about assessing the car and decided to do a preservation project. I wanted to try and preserve the story of this particular T as much as possible. Wherever possible the goal was to save as much as I could about its unique history that included many of the “fixes” that did not interfere with safety or usability. A lot of work went in to making this a fun and usable Model T. Some of the work includes:Several cleanings of the exterior.Removal of cylinder head for inspection and new head gasket.Replacement of old two piece valves with new stainless steel ones.Rebuild of original carburetor.Draining and replacement of fluids.Replacement of bushings, wheel bearings and inspection of frontend parts.Having fuel and radiators ultrasonic cleaned.Replaced transmission bands.Complete replacement of entire electrical system including rebuilt coils.Replacing hard and rotten tires and tubes with a matched set of period tires.Removal of the entire interior except headliner, everything received several dustings and cleanings before reassembly.Replacement of numerous broken or worn out bits with original pieces in similar condition as to not distract from the rest of the car. This is a good running and usable Model T not just a car that was drug out of a barn. I use it regularly around town and have used in on a couple of out of town trips. It is a unique vehicle that gets a lot of looks and always draws a crowd.If Purchaser does Buy it Now before Saturday 3rd the car can be transported to Hershey in an enclosed trailer for $400.
