This Devon Moonraker was bought new in England in 1972. It was used as a camper to tour England, France and parts of Europe. In1976 the owner immigrated to Canada and brought the van here. It remained with the original owner until this year, and was in use up until a few years ago. I acquired the van from the owner's daughter. It had been sitting for a few years, but I got it to start up and drive onto the trailer. Since then I have changed the oil and some tune up parts. I have driven it around the block and it rides quite nice. I know that there is a loyal following as well as some fanatics for these vans, I am not one of them. So I am offering it for sale in as found condition. It seems quite original. I am sure there has been mechanical work done over the years, and the owner has done some wiring repairs/improvements, but the interior seems complete and from what I can tell the van is fairly stock. The body is very good. It has a hefty coating of undercoating, that looks like it has been on since new. I scraped off some undercoat and there is factory white paint beneath. There is some rust. The drivers floor at the wheel well is rotted out (probably from spilling his tea over the years....lol) There are two spots on the floor pans that have a little perforation, but the metal around that and everywhere else is solid. The outer body has some surface rust and a few small perforations that should be visible in the pictures. I was told that the van was never used in the winter and was not exposed to road salt. The fabric on the cushions is worn, and brittle. The top pops up well, there is a crack in one of the clear panels. The interior package is quite interesting. There are lots of storage compartments as well as drawers over the engine compartment, under the cushions that slide through either from the front or rear. The third seat is reversible and the passenger can sit facing forward while traveling. There are two tables, one for inside, and a second with removable legs for outside use. The van was equipped with a sunroof over the front passenger area. It was closed with a custom sheet of aluminum, I have the original sunroof, but the fabric is bad. I see this van as a time capsule. It has not been restored, and could be used as it is with just a little freshening. To be perfect the van would require a full restoration. I expect that there are not many right hand drive camper units like this in North America. If you want to stand out this will do it. Driving from the right is quite interesting and not as difficult I had imagined.
