Vehicle Detail
This is an EV conversion I did myself and had been a daily driver for 2 years. But the battery pack is dead and I don’t have the money to replace it. LiFeO4 batteries (154v), 9" DC motor, EVnetics controller, heater, DC/DC converter. Follow the link above for more details concerning the EV part of this car. Regarding the actual VW body: The car was fully restored in 1995 by my father-in-law in New Mexico. It appears to have spent its entire life in the desert southwest. I got the car in 2009 right after the convertible top was replaced and started the conversion in 2011. The car was rust free when I got it except for the passenger floor pan where battery acid had eaten a hole through the floor. I replaced the floor pan with a new one from Wolfsburg West. The body has some small dents and dings and needs a paint job, but otherwise is in good shape. The car worked well, but I don't want this rust free car to spend the winters on the salty roads here and the hill country of western NC is not the best place for this EV.Car could be returned to a normal gas engine without too much trouble, or replace the batteries and drive gasoline free for years. On Aug-21-15 at 03:01:18 PDT, seller added the following information: 48 GBS 100AH, 3.20 Volt, Lithium-Ion 2 packs (4 cells each)in the rear engine compartment, 6 packs behind the rear seat, and 4 packs in the front trunk.Evnetics Soliton Jr controller with liquid cooling. Energy Management System from Elite Power Solutions provides pack voltage, current, capacity, and individual cell voltage and temperature on a LCD display on the dash. The LCD is part of the stereo that lets me stream music from iPhone via Bluetooth. Seems out of place in this old car but kind of cool too. Advanced DC FB1-4001 9.1” Series Wound DC motor with added blower and thermostat to cool motor.Electric resistance heater from Canadian EV that is wired directly to the traction battery. Replaced the stock airbox with the heater and may now have the best defroster of any old Bug out there. I did the conversion myself and have receipts for the big items and much of the small stuff. Spent more than $22,000 on the conversion, not including the car.
