Vehicle Detail
This is a 1990 Ford F-350 truck with a diesel engine. Therefore, it does not have to pass smog. Engine runs well. The truck was purchased from U-Haul in Orange County and has 182,000 miles on it. It has a 12' box van with a widow’s porch (storage area above cab). Tires are in fair condition, although right rear dualies are both new. It has a ten foot retractable loading ramp, which is standard on these U-Haul models. Transmission was rebuilt less than 5,000 miles ago. Starter was also rebuilt within same time frame. Truck runs and drives well but has been used mainly for storage the last two years and is not currently licensed. There are a couple of negatives I need to point out: (1) Fuel guage does not work properly and needs to be replaced or reworked. It seems to operate when truck is turned off, showing fuel in tank, but when key is turned on the guage reads zero in the tank, which is annoying. Tank holds about 35 gallons of diesel fuel. (2) Although the truck always starts, initially you sometimes have to turn the key a time or two to get contact with the starter. I would assume this is because the ignition switch is old and worn, but it always starts. I doubt the ignition switch needs more than removal, contact cleaning, and reinstallation. (3) The A/C used to work last year, and had for several years, but I suspect it’s low on freon. I doubt there is anything significantly wrong with it. A freon recharge would probably suffice. (4) For an easy quick start (at the beginning of the day) one could use an ether spray can, and it would crank up immediately. However, I never use ether and for the initial start of the day I turn on the key until glow plugs (brand new six months ago) are hot, accelerator pump of about 30 times, and vigorous accelerator pumping throughout the initial key turn and fireup. One could use ether for an immediate start, but I prefer the old-fashioned way. After the initial startup, you are good to go for the rest of the day. It starts easily the rest of the day once that initial start is done. This has been a really dependable truck and runs well. It was, of course, well-maintained by U-Haul prior to my ownership. It uses about one quart of oil about every 300 miles, depending on driving conditions. Feel free to email me with any questions. Truck is currently located in San Clemente and available for pre-buy inspection. NOTE: Truck is also listed for sale locally, so this auction may be terminated prematurely. Cash reserve for auction is $500.
