Up for sale is my 1976 Mercedes-Benz 280S. This car is an incredible survivor considering it has almost 200,000 miles and is near 40 years old. The exterior paint is in fair condition and appears to have been repainted in the past, probably sometime in the late eighties. The car runs strongly and drives well. The power windows work, as does the sunroof. The radio looks to have been replaced with a Sony cassette am/fm from an unknown vintage. It functions and so does the power antenna. The original emissions equipment is still present on the vehicle. The tires are older and should be replaced. The alloy wheels are painted the original and correct astral silver and are some of the nicest I have ever seen on an old Mercedes. The interior is in great shape, and the seat adjustments function well. The rear seat bench needs its padding replaced. I replaced the battery this year. The air conditioning system functions as does the climate control, but it does not get as cold as it should. The level of the refrigerant (R-12) needs to be checked, so should the level of the mineral oil in the compressor. For the price this car is a huge bargain especially as the 280S was only brought to the United States for two model years. This is the last carbureted S class brought to the U.S. and it has its original Solex 4A1 carb. The original mechanical fuel pump is also present and functioning. I bought this car a few years ago to lightly restore as it is the same model, year, and color as the car my mom learned to drive on. I have too many old Mercedes right now and want this car to go to someone who can enjoy it as it has been on my "back burner" for too long due to an illness. The front passenger brake line (metal with rubber jacket) requires replacement and the part will be included with the car. This S class also has the desireable (and challenging to find) OEM rubber mudflats on the rear fenders with the white Mercedes star. While the car does run and drive it should be shipped to its final destination/owner. I have a lot of experience shipping cars. I will accept a cashiers check from the buyer. Buyer arranges all shipping and is responsible for the cost of shipping. Vehicle is offered "as is" and all sales are final.
