Vehicle Detail
1985 Vanagon camper -Memorial Day Special! Work done and parts used so far: We started work on this VW was about 8-9 months ago. It sat for several years after it overheated. After that, the owner passed away and his son brought it in and asked us to buy it. We started the repairs process to get it back on the road and we just can't seem to get all the kinks out of it. That's all we know about this Vanagon Westfalia. We started the repairs: New Mahle pistons/rings (not Chinese), new used heads w/fresh valve job, new head gaskets, new Bosch plugs, rebuilt original Bosch distributor, new Bosch cap & rotor, new used ECU, new used air-box, new belts, new gas tank, new sending unit, fuel vent tube, temp light, white GoWesty dash LED lights, new 185R 14C tires, new rear wheel cylinders, bleed brakes, replaced 2-fuel injectors, new rear main seal, 2-new headlights, new water pump & new thermostat, rebuilt speedometer/odometer with miles set where they originally stopped. According to the condition of the VW, miles look pretty accurate at 88,540. Condition & quirks: We’ve got it running well right now, but every once in a while after running nicely for days, the next day won’t start, but wait 15-minutes, it starts right up and runs fine and trouble free. It does drive straight down the road. One time the engine lost power for no reason and won’t go over 35mph one minute, then it’s fine for for endless driving soon after.Gremlins!!! We think that problem has been solved by replacing the ECU, but can't be positive. This week it’s running like it should, but who knows what next week has in store for it. It could be all set or it may need some more tweaking down the road, we just can’t be certain. Important: * We have no more time or money to invest in this VW right now. * Please be sure you want this VW BEFORE bidding or buying.* We're a very honest shop - we're just stumped on this Vanagon, so sold as is.* Auction may end at any time as this VW is also advertised elsewhere.* This VW is sold AS IS, with no warranty implied or offered. ***UPDATE just after this ad was placed, transmission has become a bit hard to shift. It feels like the shift ball in the rear. Like I said, we fix one thing, another goes, and then we fix it, too. Almost out of things to replace at this point. We'll take a look at it after the Holiday and post what the problem is at that time and whether or not the repair will be included in the price. As I said, this VW is sold AS IS, where it is with no warranty implied or offered on this 30-year old VW. Questions? email or call us at 941-365-6684 and we'll be happy to chat about the VW. "No VW should ever die"(even this one!!!)On May-26-15 at 06:08:23 PDT, seller added the following information: TRANSMISSION UPDATE: 5/26/2015: The shift ball linkage wore out. It has been repaired and transmission is shifting as it should now!On May-28-15 at 14:36:17 PDT, seller added the following information: UPDATE 5/28/2015: I've had so many people ask if they can drive this across the country. My answer is still no, not in my opinion. I wouldn't drive it that far until all the little idiosyncrasies are remedied! But that's just me. PLEASE be sure to askquestions, and if you know enough about Vanagon's, bid only to own this one! It will start and drive right onto a truck or trailer, no problem.
