1959 German made Volkswagen Beetle Red with White Convertible Top Vehicle description Picture yourself taking this cute 1959 German made Volkswagen Beetle for a spin. Put the convertible top down and enjoy the natural air conditioning on a warm day. It’s bright red color and white convertible top is a definite head turner. If you are ever going to be in the market for a pre-1960 Volkswagen Convertible, take a close look at this one because it will be a long time before you find another as nice without having to pay “full restoration” prices! This car has spent most of its life in California. In 1982 the prior owner did a restoration that included paint, chrome, top and interior. Money wasn’t an issue at the time. He wanted a clean original look to the car because this was going to be a car that could be enjoyed out on the road and not just a show car. He wasn’t interested in a 100 point original restoration car, just a great looking VW convertible Beetle. Vehicle condition As you can see this car has been well taken care of over the years and still will turn heads where ever it goes. This car has the original front and rear clips and the original serial numbered 36 HP engine in it. The original “crash box” transmission and 6 volt electrical system are also included. The only obvious non-period sheet metal in the car is the later “button” rear convertible deck lid. During the 1982 restoration, the original deck lid has some moisture rot and was replaced with a new later ‘60s convertible lid. The radio is a later 12 volt model that uses an included 6 volt to 12 volt inverter. The 33 year old finish has the expected small scratches and chips but you can see it still shines! The top is the very best vinyl top you could purchase at the time. The convertible top slides back easily but has made two small marks that can be seen in the photos. This Beetle has been part of an indoor collection for the past 9 years. As a result, this car can be enjoyed as is or with some TLC put it back on the road. The engine was running prior to storage but has not been started for some years. The condition of the battery is questionable. The odometer reads 66,628 miles. When you add it all up, this is 56 year old antique VW Beetle is a very well preserved piece of automotive history.
