Vehicle Detail
Purchased in 2007 on eBay for 11k (see pictures for sale specifics). We are the 3rd owners. The original owner had the pans replaced in 2006. We've had a rebuilt transmission, new shifter, new ball joints, 3 point seat belts and (recent) new battery put in it. We also put on new period and size correct whitewall tires. It had 83,863 miles when we bought it...it has 85,791 now (embarrassing that we've only put 240 miles/ year in the years we've had it... you can see in pics that the tires still have those whiskers on them). Starts instantly but would benefit from a tune up. Brakes squeak momentarily at first stop, then don't.Rubber seals around driver window are gone (no issue if top is down.) . It isn't a $24,000 fully restored Ghia, but is a fun car that no one will be embarrassed to be seen in, and a great starting point for anyone with the talent/ skill to bring everything back up to speed. I'm sure there are things I have forgotten, both plus and minus. Call or email if you have other questions. It comes with a bunch of framed original magazine ads that we collected, as well as manuals and books. The whole ad campaign was a tongue-in-cheek "sports-car-with-a-vw-bug-engine" flavor. Check out this commercial on youtube - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EiBNtGSzrp4 It just sits in our garage now, and needs a new home. A few addition pictures here https://www.dropbox.com/sh/f82x2hja30rznos/AACixHQnkPcW6Jymz5rX2duna?dl=0 On May-16-15 at 14:25:39 PDT, seller added the following information: 5/16/2015 @1614CDT - UPDATE - As I was preparing the car for the new owner today, I found that the front hood VW emblem has fallen off somewhere recently (I added a picture to the dropbox link..eBay won't let me add any more pictures to the actual listing). The original pictures clearly show it was there. Consequently, I will give whoever wins this a 75.00 rebate, which is the upper end replacement cost for a quality emblem I see on current eBay listings. On a GOOD note, THE HORN IS NOW WORKING...Yay! I simply disconnected the wires and cleaned the terminals, and it works like it used to! I also neglected to say that I have several new replacement seals (windows, doors) that come with the car.
