The Porsche 964 market has caught the attention of collectors and enthusiasts. It was really the beginning of the modern version of the 911. Some of the most significant changes in the 911’s history began with this model. Torsion bar suspension was replaced with an adjustable coil-over setup. Power steering was added. The A/C system was updated and much more effective. The new twin-plug 3.6L engine made these cars wonderful around town with great low-end power. The changes were extensive and really made these examples some of the best all-around driving 911s. The challenge is that not many were made and even fewer survived with low miles and in stock condition. 1990 was the first model year for the 964 Cabriolet and only 673 were brought to the U.S. The price tag was over $70,000, which would be around $135,000 in today’s dollars. Very few were made and even fewer buyers could afford them.
This 964 was built on December 20th, 1989. Zipper Porsche of Beverly Hills, CA sold it new on April 19th, 1990. It was ordered with the following factory options:

The original owner kept the car for about 4 years and always serviced it at the local Porsche dealer. The current/2nd owner purchased the car from the original owner on February 10th, 1994 with about 9,000 miles. For the next 21-years, this owner used the same independent Porsche specialist for all this car’s service. Most of the time, the car only needed a normal oil service and an occasional major service. The car has been incredibly reliable. Some significant or recent services include:
Clutch, dual mass flywheel, and input shaft seals replaced (18,000 miles ago)
Cabriolet top cables replaced
Continental tires installed (3,000 miles ago)
Oil return tubes replaced (2,000 miles ago)
Front brake pads and rotors replaced (2,000 miles ago)
Major service/adjust valves/spark plugs (3,000 miles ago)
Replace rear spoiler control unit and relay (6,000 miles ago)
The condition of this 964 is typical for low-mile/1-owner examples. It is pristine. The original factory paint (verified with a paint meter) is in great shape with almost no signs of use (thanks to the car bra). The soft top looks new and the rear window is clear. There is a small superficial tear on the top by the passenger side rear. It does not go through and does not leak (see pic). Although the tires are older, they only have 3,000 miles on them and look new with no cracks or signs of age. It is clear that this Porsche was always stored inside. All the glass is original including the windscreen, which has a small chip that was professionally filled (see pic).
The interior looks equally fresh with no tears on the leather and no cracks on the dash. The carpet and door panels look great. All the gauges work properly and the electric top operates smoothly. The A/C has recently been leak tested and freshly oiled/charged. It blows very cold (42 degrees out of the center vent).
Of course, this Porsche drives great. There is nothing quite like a low-milage car. Everything feels tight and responsive. The G50 gearbox shifts smoothly with very little effort. The brakes feel crisp with great initial bite. The power top works with ease.
California registration is paid through April 2016.
This 911 comes with all the books/manuals, spare collapsible tire, plastic Porsche glove, plastic storage for wheel, touch-up paint, extra key, tool kit, air compressor, and car bra.
