Vehicle Detail

The car is being re-listed due to a non-paying bidder. If you don't have the funds available, don't bid. You are bidding on a numbers-matching, 1972 Pontiac (Firebird) Formula 400, 4 speed. Out of a total of 29,951 Pontiac F-bodies built in 1972, there were only 2,429 Formula 400s made. Of these, even fewer were 4 speeds, so this is a rare car. I would bet there aren't many M22 cars left, especially with their original drivetrains and low miles. This car is nearly all original, including the block, heads, intake, carburetor, transmission, rearend & wheels. There are only 74K original miles on the odometer. It was originally Lucerne Blue with a black Custom interior - a great color combination. It is PHS-documented (Pontiac Historic Services) and left the factory with 24 options! Some of which include: 400 4 bbl engine M22 "Rock-crusher" transmission (4 speed) Ride & handling package (same as the Trans Am) Formula steering wheel Tach & gauges AM radio 8 track player Tilt steering Air conditioning etc. I have over 100 pictures at the following link: http://s73.photobucket.com/user/blue71ta/slideshow/1972%20Formula%20400-4%20spd%20for%20sale The car spent it's whole life in California up until about 2 years ago when I had it shipped to Wisconsin. Since it arrived, it has been in warm, dry storage. All body panels are original to the car. Despite the multiple shades of primer on the exterior, it is a very solid car. The floors, frame rails, rear body panel, fenders, doors and deck lid are solid! There is some pitting on the roof from the original vinyl top, as well as the center of the trunk pan. Trunk pan has some small holes too. I have a new trunk pan that will be included with the car. There is a small amount of rust-through on the passenger side, lower rear 1/4 also - see pics. The parts shown in the picture are also included with the car. The car starts and runs well. I just installed new AC Delco plugs & wires, as well as a brand new "gold" battery with a 6 year warranty. The clutch and brakes work well. Transmission shifts fine. All gauges work except the clock. The steering has a little play in wheel, but not bad. Might be the rag joint? Regarding the originality of the car, it appears to still have the original exhaust system, the original black clock knob, the "ICX" code steering wheel and the key warning buzzer still works! All four "KR" code Rally II wheels are intact as well. This is an excellent foundation for a partial or full restoration. You won't be searching for parts and you'd be starting with a very solid car. My plan was to get the paint / bodywork done, clean up the interior and enjoy it. Hate to sell, but have other priorities in life right now. NOTE: If the winning bidder provides their own wheels and tires when the car is picked up, I will deduct $1,000 from the final bid price. In other words, I would keep the wheels/tires that are shown in the pics. I can assist in swapping them out if this is what you decide. I am offering this in case you already have a set of KR wheels and would like to save yourself some money. TERMS OF SALE: Please do not bid unless you can and will pay for the car. If you have any questions, please ask before bidding as all sales are final. I will require a $500 deposit within 24 hours of auction close. This can be paid via PayPal or wire transfer. The balance is to be paid in full within 4 days of auction end. This can be a wire transfer or cash in person. The car can be stored here within a reasonable amount of time IF you make arrangements with me ahead of time and it is paid for in full.
