Vehicle Detail
This is a full size 1985 3/4 Ton 4X4 Ford Supercab with a Long Wide Box. 460 Engine, 4 Speed on the floor, as is the transfer case linkage. Has a 10"Dana rear end with long studs as new it was a duel tired unit? also duel piston front Brake Calipers on a 3/4ton? has leaf springs! I must point out that the owner/person who took care of the Body on this truck is not the same person who did service on any part of the drivetrain when things needed attention! People at shops were used or handy friends kept him going. So the drivetrain is in much better shape than the Body, however you cannot see it. and the way the bed looks is not good at all. it will be removed in a week! The sheet metal on the Bed sides is bent a little bit and the white-ish paint is loose. it looks terrible. It will come off rather quickly with an air powered DA Sander. The tailgate is bent a little bit and the latch is broken again! it can be repaired, yet you do not need it at all if you plan to use a Camper! A New Bradford flatbed is around 3,500.00 Up. Used Fenders and Door can be bought in Butte, Mt. for 175.00. I would like to sell this whole truck for $2,000.00 or so---- OK I have found something wrong with the Drivetrain: the back parking Brake cables are missing! the tailpipes past the mufflers are also missing! the Brake peddle goes down too far, but the Truck still stops! The Back gas tank is not hooked up however an New electric fuel pump outside the tank has been installed on the side tank, such that it is quick and easy to replace in the field. The Engine is running much better now. (me) it is still wise to have a plan in your head for a new engine, say in a year or two? *** and maybe even a 5 speed. This truck has a New Starter, New tires, New Clutch, & a New window, and there is more! The cab has a bunch of little things to repair inside that are a general pain in the butt, yet do not cost much if you can do it yourself. a 1985 PU is a lot more user friendly than a newer truck perhaps this can be a learning tool for self teaching, or someone else? with a Chiltons book and the Net. and myself for a year, email or phone, for how to's (if you buy it soon) I will start fixing on the cab in a week as I think I can sell it for more than I am offered for the whole truck so far I am simply needing to generate some money to pay the owners storage bills as he got in trouble and is away for a year or so. Nick W Cell 406 660 0992 On Mar-30-15 at 10:05:46 PDT, seller added the following information: I have been to Butte last Sat. I Now have a better door and fender! I am working on prep! they have parking brake cables and a front bumper that is near perfect as it has the black rubber center and the uprights as well, in Montana. I must strive to make this truck look better as the bids are way low? so far. Simple Point: the drive train is what makes you go and the brakes stop you! Yet the body is what you see! Now if you cannot fix/repair anything this is not for you! however the drive train and brakes will now very likely make it to the West or East Coast with out any major problems/Breakdowns as I am going over it myself! There are a couple things you need to follow through on. and I will be glad to fill you in when/if you buy it. I am in the process of replacing the left door and fender and I will explain and post pictures how to! so sometime in April I will try to sell on ebay parts the Cab, Rear end, front end, transmission, transfer case, engine, drive lines, Frame, and Springs etc. as it now seems this will bring more money and I get the tires as I have a use for them! Oh by the way the engine paint is grey everywhere I believe Ford engines are usually ford blue! So? I wonder? please consider these facts- Ford made 3/4 ton pickups way to lightweight way back in 1981 to 1983 and they were always broken somewhere- however 84 and 85 is a lot better as I was there. This front end is still all working! as it has not seen as much 4 wheel drive use. Thanks Nick W On Apr-01-15 at 09:22:14 PDT, seller added the following information: Update on April 1 (this is not an April fools joke) The Front Ball joints appear to be in good shape and not very old at all, the tie-rod ends are fine & greased, the front brakes appear to be good enough to last 6 mos. or a year (2 bolts remove the caliper piston unit, leaving the pads in place) I still have plans to clean and re-grease the Front Bearings and use new Seals. on the Engine most of the Oil burning is from one cylinder on the drivers side. I cannot be sure what it takes to repair it properly until I get the head or heads off and inspect! the stuff called engine Restore can slow down and/or repair this So I still feel a new engine should be in works in a year or so, it is possible to buy a core engine and work on it! including engine Balance, then switch them on the weekend. You may sell/trade what you do not want or wish to keep, This truck has a new Clutch, New rear U-joint and seal on a 10"Dana rear end, with long wheel studs and new tires (800.00) I have improved the hood latch a lot and will get the replacement door on today, change the seat and do a compression test as well. You are really buying the drive train and the body is mostly yours to repair and paint. Think Flatbed, Light body work-prep. and paint. You can work on this a lot easier than say a year 2000 or newer! Have a good one ! Nick
