Vehicle Detail

Up for auction is a 1969 Honda CB750 Sandcast. I am going to try and represent it as best I can and to the best of my knowledge. I bought this bike in late 2007, and it's been nothing but great and reliable. I rode it for about a thousand miles, then it sat for a few years as life took me around, and beat me up. Now, it has to make way. It is not all-original, and not a museum-piece, but a solid, reliable machine that could be used as a "rider" as-is, or a perfect candidate for a resto, if one was so inclined. It's showing just over 36,000 miles, and to my knowledge, they are original. The biggest thing is that it does not have the original tank or bodywork. The previous owner, (a Honda collector), replaced the missing bodywork with a set of original K0 Candy Gold bodywork he had, as an homage to the original Gold Sandcast Brighton show bike. I think it looks stunning and I actually prefer the Gold to the Red or Blue. The paint and bodywork show age-appropriate patina, but still shines and looks good. The anodizing on the controls is aged, but it looks appropriate. Everything works as it should. The bike starts and runs just fine. I recently replaced the battery, rebuilt the front brake and carbs and changed the oil. The tires are Continental, and have low-miles, since they were replaced right before I got the bike, but they are 7 years old. So I wouldn't go canyon-carving with it. It is definitely a "rider-grade" bike that can be used as Soichiro Honda intended, and not just rot away in a living room somewhere, on display. The bike does have most, if not all of the rare sandcast bits that collector's love: Acorn mirrors black kill switch double-cut fender left-side horn mount small generator cover boss rolled rear rim short chainguard fat exhaust clamps (the fins are fatter than later ones) exhaust pipe non-indented for the brake pedal oil line fittings/swages are smooth, not crimped recessed ignition key dished brake reservoir cap all "number 8" bolts ducktail seat with red foam proper two-hole rear fender smooth oil filter housing, (this was machined down from a regular finned housing, so it looks right on the outside, but still has the strengthening ribs on the inside. Best of both worlds) 45-tooth rear sprocket (17T front) and probably others that I am forgetting. As I said, it lacks the wrinkle tank and red or blue body work, but pretty much all the hard-to-get bits are there. This is a strong-running bike that is the rare "Sandcast you can actually USE", or you could make it a Sunday-Rider/Show bike as-is, or you could hit up Yamiya 750 and get some proper-colored wrinkle-tank bodywork. At that point, I would consider doing the whole bike, since it'll look a little off-balanced with 46-year old everything with bright, new bodywork and tank. A few minor points, but this bike won the September 2007 "Bike of the Month" contest on the SOHC Honda Forum, and internet site devoted to the SOHC four-cylinder Hondas, and was featured on the cover of the April 2009 American Motorcyclist Association magazine. So it's sorta e-famous, lol! I don't want to sell it, and I hate to see it go, but life changes, including a change of job, a divorce and the possibility of having to move across the country are making me sell off nearly everything. Thanks for looking. $500.00 non-refundable deposit is due within 48 hours of auction close. This will be a bank-transfer, since my paypal is messed up and I hate dealing with them. The balance will be due within 7 days, either via bank transfer, or certified cashier's check. If you can pick the bike up in person, cash is also acceptable. Once the money clears my account, I will mail the title to you, and assist a shipper however I can. Shipping is on the buyer to arrange. Would prefer the bike picked up within two weeks of auction close, but if you make arrangements with me prior, we can work something out.
