I bought this vehicle in March of 2003. The vehicle description at that time was: "1969 280 SL Red-Excellent Condition. You are bidding on a privately owned beautiful 1969 classic roadster that I have owned for approximately 2 years - about the same amount of time it took me to find it! Although not show/mint condition, this classic roadster turns heads everywhere and made a great parade car last July 4th. This car is Signal Red with bright chrome with both hard top and new black German canvass convertible top properly installed. The interior includes new leather seats with horsehair contour seat and back cushions, proper carpet, door panels and new wood dash and console trim. The previous owner of this classic spent well over $17,500.00 in restoration and it shows. The engine starts first time every time and runs strong, cool and smoothly having a recent cylinder head rebuild. All cylinders have a high, even compression. The rare 4 speed transmission is new and shifts smoothly and precisely. This roadster has new Bilstein shocks and new tires along with new brake calipers, rotors, pads and hoses and a new brake cylinder. Personal inspections are welcomed. This classic roadster is in excellent condition and in the proper color - it will not disappoint. This classic roadster is in excellent condition but is not mint or showroom condition. Being 34 years old, it shows and runs well. The Signal Red paint does have a few scratches and nicks but none that take away form the beauty of this classic. The sun-visors are less than desirable and are therefore not mounted. The Becker radio which I believe is original is at Becker North America for refurbishment and will be installed prior to delivery-new speaker is included. Please email with any questions." The sun-visors were never received and are therefore not on the car. I have invested almost $8,000 on a re-cored radiator, rebuilt rear differential, trunk seals and trunk torsion bars, rear brake hoses, control arm bushings, axel boot and seal, steering damper and stabilizer links. All work was performed by professional shop specializing in Mercedes classic cars. The mileage at the time of purchase was stated as 143,488. A deposit for $1,000.00 is required 2 days after auction close. The balance to be remitted to Seller 5 days thereafter. Vehicle is sold "AS IS" with no warranty. Personal inspections are welcomed; however, they must be completed before bidding. Transfer of ownership via clear bill of sale. Transport of vehicle at Purchaser's expense.
