Vehicle Detail

Ready to own one of the most famous Muscle cars from the 70's, you dont see these cars very often. I have for sale a very clean 1978 Trans Am that is what I will call a rust free car. The left floor pan has been patched years ago and shows the same age as the remaining underside of the car. Other than that there has been no rust repair and there is no other rust in the car. everything is solid. Let me be clear about the condition of the car, it is NOT a fully restored car nor is it a perfect car. Although for the year it is in GREAT shape. The front end has been rebuilt recently, and it steers and drives excellent. I just had a Remanufactured A/c compressor, expansion valve and drier and some new a/c lines, and condenser installed and the A/c works great. It is an old car and will need periodic maintenance as you drive it. Since the car sat for a while before I purchased it I had it gone through by the mechanic. Many new parts were installed recently. including New belts, transmission mount, power steering pump, power steering gear box, wiper motor, sway bar bushings, fan clutch, speedometer cable, spark plugs, distributor, cap, rotor, transmission filter kit, and a new starter. The car had a small leak on the passenger side head gasket so i had the heads sent to the machine shop for a valve job, new valve guides, valve seals, and resurface of the heads along with a new engine gasket set. The Body: Overall great condition, it appears to have one repaint and I'd call the paint and body 7 out of 10, not show quality (Im picky) but it shines very nicely and it gets compliments everywhere I go, body is straight with only minor imperfections. Paint is not perfect. but is in very good condition, I had new decals installed and the hood repainted along with a section on the rear trunk that was showing its age, The decals are in good shape, some of the striping is worn but I have a new roll of the correct striping if you would like to redo it , but overall most of the decals are new. The gaps are very factory and I don't believe the car has ever been wrecked or taken apart. Doors, hood, and trunk shut properly. The trunk is solid with no rust as well as the trunk floor. The bumpers are in good shape. All the glass is in good shape other then the front windshield has some bubbling showing from what i believe to be the factory tint or maybe its the windshield itself. The manual windows roll up and down as they should. Remember, this car is 36 years old and has not been restored. The Interior: the seats are in great condition I think they have been re-dyed, headliner is good, dash has an dash pad installed on it I have the factory grab handle the goes on the dash (its currently in the trunk), Gauge cluster is older looking the normal oil pressure and coolant gauge don't work properly (aftermarket gauges have been installed) I believe all other gauges seem to work properly. Heater works, and all vents switch as they should. AC works great also, blows cold and works as it should. The stereo works great and has a good sound (aftermarket cd/mp3/ipod player) Drivetrain: The engine is a 400 Pontiac 6.6L that the car was built with and retains all factory parts and accessories,AC compressor, all belts and hoses are in good shape, . The car runs good, pump it a few times when its cold and it fires right up. Factory 4 barrel carb car,the car idles great, and performs as it should. Exhaust has had cherry bombs added and is a full dual exhaust system, the front section at the engine is stock and then splits into 2 pipes now with no catalytic converter. It Sounds great, not too loud but has a nice muscle car sound. The Transmission is not the original TH350 that I was told should have came in this car it has a TH400 instead that was installed prior to me purchasing the car, it shifts smoothly with no slipping. The rear-end is posi traction not sure of the gear ratio but it does seem to run higher in the RPMS if Highway driving. It runs good in town, not a race car but performs as it should, drum brakes on the rear and disc up front. I have had it at 80mph on the highway although it seems like it could use another gear since the rpms are high. Brakes are perfect, steering is perfect and tight, and the car is very solid, it doesn't rattle, it rides tight and straight, I have driven it all over town. The tires BF Goodrich Radials and are like new condition with more then 80 percent tread remaining. Wheels look to have been refinished at one time they are in good shape. and the spare tire is in the trunk which has been powder coated and hasn't even had a tire put on it yet. Overall: A good condition 1978 Trans am that will get lots of attention (SMOKEY IN THE BANDIT CAR). Work on it as you go,or drive it as is. it does not need a full restoration, but does have allot of original parts on it. if your looking for a nice collectible to drive on the weekends or make into a full on show car that seems to be going up in value the older they get then this is the right car for you. Disclaimer I'll deal with overseas , or out of state buyers and will ship the car at your expense. but will require a wire transfer or cash at the time of pickup. I recommend having an inspection done if you plan to buy it site unseen and you are welcome to come see it in person. If you want more pics just ask and I will email them. If you have any questions just ask I will be honest about the car. Please do not bid if you don't have the money in hand. Good luck. The car is being sold AS-IS with no Warranty or guarantees. I have the car listed for-sale locally so reserve the right to end the auction if it sells before hand.
