Vehicle Detail
Known as the "poor man's E-type," the Triumph GT6 offers an exhilarating, authentic British sports car experience at a small fraction of the price of its more famous Jaguar cousin. This example is the most sought-after Mark III version, which eliminated the dangerous swing-axle suspension of the earlier GT6's. This car also has the very desirable overdrive option, which makes for high-speed freeway cruising without over-revving the engine. Unlike the underpowered Spitfire, the GT6's straight-six engine has the punch to keep pace in modern traffic -- and its phenomenal, throaty growl will bring a smile to your face! I purchased this car two years ago on eBay for $3500 as a non-running project car, and have restored it to running status. I have replaced most of the ignition system, including an upgrade to a Pertronix 40,000 volt Flamethrower coil, new distributor cap and rotor, starter solenoid, plugs and wires. The engine, drivetrain, brakes, steering, suspension and lighting have been inspected and serviced by John's Jaguar, a respected British specialty mechanic in San Francisco. New brake master cylinder, rear cylinders and brake shoes were installed. See the attached photos for a copy of the repair records. This car is now FULLY LICENSED AND REGISTERED in California. Because it was built prior to 1975, it will NEVER NEED A SMOG CERTIFICATE. New parts for GT6's are readily available -- and amazingly inexpensive -- from Victoria British Co. in the USA, as well as several companies in the UK. There is a large and active Triumph owner community in the USA, whose members are very willing to provide advice in online forums, over the phone or in person at any of the many Triumph and British car meets around the country. Unlike the more common Spitfires and TR6's, the GT6 was never exported in large quantities, so these great-looking cars turn heads even among British car enthusiasts. Besides being a ton of fun to drive, one of the coolest aspects of owning a GT6 is that, like the Spitfire, the hood (or "bonnet" for you Brits) actually consists of the entire front of the car -- it lifts up from the rear, hinged at the front of the car. To work on the engine, you just raise the bonnet, sit on the tire, and you can tinker away happily without killing your back. Oh -- and please watch and LISTEN to the video links below. The GT6's engine roar -- unencumbered by modern emissions control -- is one of the most appealing aspects of owning a classic British sports car! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dobT1JANGU8&feature=youtu.be https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0W9B4HS_h4Q&feature=youtu.be https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9gXBQlStN8g&feature=youtu.be This car has been restored from a "project car" to a "running restoration" and could be your daily driver with very little work. It could also be restored to a show-quality vehicle, doing the restoration all at once, or one stage at a time if you prefer. Good "daily driver" GT6's sell for around $10,000 and well-restored show-quality examples often sell for over $20,000. A few caveats: the speedometer is not working (a replacement speedometer is included) so the odometer mileage may not be accurate. The tires are not new but are basically okay, with some uneven wear due to having been stored for 2 years before I bought it. With a car of this vintage, we are selling it as is, where is. We can assist with finding reliable trailer transportation of the vehicle, if you live in another part of the country. If you live in the San Francisco Bay Area and would like to look at the car, please send an email via the eBay system.
