Vehicle Detail
1973 BMW 2002 TiiVIN #2762905 (see Tii registry - valid 1973 VIN range and all panels/VIN plates etc match)Polaris silver exterior on Black (dash, front sport seats, parcel shelf) and Navy (everything else)69,700 miles (mileage on odometer, which seems to be accurate per records, and the odometer functions well [I have logged several thousand miles on it and have observed both the main odo and trip odo function accurately the entire time])Clear title - single owner sellerMy price reflects the Tii market, originality, and overall condition and is very fair, and I have made concessions in the price to address things mentioned below. Hagerty Insurance and I have it replacement valued at $22,000, so the price is fair given the adjustments I have made for items detailed below. There is a ton to like about this car as far as Tii's go - the completeness, the originality (with a few tasteful mods and improvements), excellent interior, mechanically excellent, excellent structure and how much potential it has to be either an extremely nice driver or could even be a show car with the right touches. I love this vehicle and hate to part with it -- reasons for selling is:1) I have too many cars and too little storage space.2) I want to give the car more attention and bring it to the next level but don't have the time let alone space to do it in right now. Mechanically, excellent condition - very few non-cosmetic needs:Rear transmission mounts (subtract $250). These are mechanically captive and not critical yet but nice to do fairly soon. One steering arm joint has a couple mm of play, also not critical.Differential has a dripping leak. I don't know if it's front seal, side seal(s), or cover. Keep it topped up, diff itself is fine.Tires are about 60% tread, Federal brand, not weather checked. My preference would be to change to 15" Panasports and a lower profile tire. (Also included if you want them is a set of four nearly pristine 320i turbine style alloys, no tires, in boxes)I would replace wiper arms. The black paint is chipped and I believe the originals should be bright metal finish anyhow.Exhaust - solid and proper - Bosal rear muffler - it's just not the prettiest - I would replace. The driving lights - Bosch - have a couple of stone chips and they are the plastic housing style. Not a serious detraction, but they are not the original Tii driving lights. They may also not be fully wired up. Wiring appears to be intact but has some issue. Original fog light switch in dash.Recently addressed / maintenance / enhancements:Reconditioned Tii head, valve job, all new rockers and rocker shafts done by a Tii expert in Los Angeles several months ago (1000 mi ago). At that time, FI and ignition timing were also reset to factory spec. All upper-end and fuel/induction gaskets were replaced at the same time.Pertronix electronic ignition. All fluids - coolant, brake fluid, oil service, diff oil has all, of course been attended to.New Optima Red battery in 2013. This car has had a properly, well-executed battery relocation to the trunk with very high-gauge cables and proper protection, gold terminals, and a 120A breaker up front. New alternator bushings and belt. All new fuel lines, filter.New fuel pump - later style Bosch. It has been moved to inner rear fender well for better reliability and less susceptible to elements (factory pump and lines also sit right above inner CV joint so it is not the safest design). The original Tii pump is included and mount is intact, no problem returning to original, if desired.Recent Koni yellows.Does not have original radio. Instead previous owner installed a high-end Pioneer deck with iPod and Aux, and JL Audio speakers all around. They are tastefully, discreetly mounted and the audio system sounds very nice. Original Bosch antenna makes for good tuning.Later model sport seats and steering wheel.Z4 shifter (effectively "short shift").Nice anti-roll bars and hardware. Front links are inverted so they don't catch/drag on anything.Factory steel 13" spare, jack and lug wrench.Hella H4 headlights are nice, low and high beams work properly, all of the springs and adjusters in the headlight buckets work correctly. All of the locks work correctly.Body / structural:There is no structural rust, no tower rust, solid battery tray, solid trunk floor, underbody totally solid, no rust in the rockers. It's one of the wonderful things about this car is its solid nature and lack of structural rusts. The car has clearly had a couple of resprays in its lifetime. The current respray is very good quality but showing it's age a bit. The original color was, and is Polaris Silver. It appears the car had a respray to a dark blue at some point and was changed back to original. The current paint on hood, roof, truck is excellent. On the fenders, doors, quarters, it is showing its age. I have included a $2500 concession in price to address the dent (see photos) in the rear fascia and some paint work. Again, this is not a $30k car as it sits, it is a $20k car - with a little cosmetic freshening here and there, and another 1-2 years in the market, you will easily have a $30-40k car.Doors - the lower edges are showing some rust at the seam. The passenger door (see photos) has a couple superficial bubbles developing.About cosmetics / aesthetics:Dash, instrument panel, and switchgear are beautiful. The OEM loop carpeting (blue) is beautiful. (Some pictures may show protective mats.)The headliner and visors are beautiful.Brightwork is very complete. I would replace upper belt line trim set due to dings (it serves its purpose) and put original trim on the shelf. New driver's side OEM mirror. Original is included (mount bolt stripped).Various extra trim/rubber included (door handle/lock seals, rear license light standoffs/seals, an aftermarket shift knob).Front later-model sport seats are black and in beautiful condition. I do not like how they are adapted to mount so I would probably find or fabricate new mounts.Rear seat is in excellent shape. Looks rarely used. Rear cards and seat are all excellent.Front door cards are good. The bright work and knobs could use a couple pieces of freshening. All of the window/vent/crank mechanisms work well.Other notes about condition:Overall excellent in terms of running, clutch, shifting, driving, braking. All of the lights (save for fogs) and instruments work. Service and maintenance records going back decadesThis is a west coast car it's whole life. The past two years it has spent in indoor storage, occasionally driven (largely highway non-traffic) and most recently, mileage put on (1000mi) to break in head. Original owner's manual.Hopefully I have not forgotten anything (probably, I am) - any questions, please ask. So, per title, I am listing it as a 1973. Overall: My price reflects the Tii market, originality, and overall condition and is very fair, and I have made concessions in the price to address things mentioned below. Hagerty Insurance and I have this vehicle replacement valued at $22,000, so the price is fair given the adjustments I have made for items detailed below. There is a ton to like about this car as far as Tii's go - the color combo, completeness, the originality (with a few tasteful mods and improvements), excellent interior, mechanically excellent, excellent structure and how it drives and sits today, either continuing it's current life as a nice driver, or with a little effort in the areas mentioned/depicted could even be a real stunner Tii. I love this vehicle and hate to part with it -- reasons for selling is:1) I have too many cars and too little storage space.2) I want to give the car more attention and bring it to the next level but don't have the time let alone space to do it in right now. All of the window/vent/crank mechanisms work well.Trunk carpet and trim are complete, and trunk is solid as mentioned below. The paint and trim in the trunk are grungy. This is one area of attention the car needs, aesthetically, to bring it up to a showable condition.Body / structural:There is no structural rust, no tower rust, solid battery tray, solid trunk floor, underbody totally solid, no rust in the rockers. The passenger door (see photos) has a couple superficial bubbles developing. The driver's side door sags due to hinge/pin wear. I have included new hardware for striker, but I would address the hinges first. At the same time I would likely recondition the driver's door, or actually both doors, at least strip and repaint them both (or replace them if you want to truly refresh the doors to show condition). Gaskets for door handles are also included and mirror gaskets were recently replaced.Recently addressed / maintenance / enhancements:Reconditioned Tii head, valve job, all new rockers and rocker shafts done by a Tii expert in Los Angeles several months ago (1000 mi ago).
