About 13 years ago, a must be wealthy fellow found a beautiful survivor Opel GT and threw about $50,000 at her. It is seriously The most solid opel GT I have ever seen, and I have seen quite a few. My other GT was the most solid I thought, until this one. Looked like an old lady owned this one in a rust free part of the country! He found an ultra rare Irmscher 2.4 Opel CIH motor, fuel injection, and had the full works done to it at a reputable garage. Front suspension, lowered front and rear, big brakes, paint job etc. It has approximately 20,000 miles on it since restoration. He must have had $65000 in this one, own it now for a fraction! Can be driven immediately! Final result was a beautiful and fast GT. With all the rarest goodies. crack fee perfect dash!, rear trim strip! solid rockers and belly pan! Motor is higher compression, but has been tuned to run on pump gas. Fast forward 13 years and here we are. I bought it from the second owner. He was a purist and likes all original, and I have a GT I fully restored myself. Every nut and bolt. I have bills to pay and a young family. House hunting is in our future and I must sacrifice my rare beauty. I have 0 sentimental value like my other, and I would lose big $ on my resto also. I wish my restoration had this one's engine and fuel injection though! All $20000 in parts were bought from Opel GT Source in California and all $30000 in work was done by a very reputable Garage in Seattle area. THE GOOD! Drives like a modern car as far as acceleration, merging, start ups, etc. no cold carburetor issues! All receipts included Original bill of sale and cancelled check! all the literature and documentation. Very Solid car, no rust repairs and all original metal that I am aware of. Paint is in very good condition and no substantial reason for repaint. No significant scratches or door dings. Irmscher 2.4 stroker motor from a European Manta I240 Ultra rare! higher compression etc. Getrag 5 Speed in excellent condition Big brake package with vented rotors and larger calipers/pads Beautiful Ronal wheels Crack free perfect dash!!! Very rare! Rear aluminum trim strip is in place and excellent condition. Heavy duty radiator Interior is very good except for small tear in seam of seat- could be repaired by seamstress, rest of seats are excellent(also have replacement upholstery from OGTS) Drives amazingly fast and sporty.(original GT's are very slow) All glass is excellent and its aluminum trim around windows fits great and looks good(one window has dings in trim, but still looks good) OGTS finished up the engine installation and got it running right. Shipped to and fro from Seattle. Hvae some old cd's from OGTS documenting the repairs too. Starts right up! no choke, no cold start issues, no stalling in traffic! Beautiful modern fuel injection! Drive it for 10 years and either restore it or sell it for more than what you pay now! THE BAD! or I should say the not so bad 2 tiny dings in roof that are only noticeable from certain angles. (could be repaired by paintless dent repair for under $100,) bottom corners of belly pan have dings from trailer loading? not noticeable when car is on ground at all! no rust, just dented and small scratch. could probably be pushed out if able to get at back of dents. small tear in seat(new cover included) or could be repaired by seamstress or upholsterer) 2 tiny 1" slits in headliner- covered with electrical tape and barely noticeable. only disclosing for full transparency... Small rattle in right front over bumps, unable to find in my limited diagnosis. checked the usual's but is proving hard to find. tires are Kumho and at around 40% Rims have minor curb rash on 2 wheels. Not noticeable unless you look for it. Interior looks nice but floor mats cover up old carpet. Needs a carpet kit Rubber weatherstripping for hood, doors, windshield are 13 years old. No leaks but deteriorated. THE UGLY! None WHAT IT NEEDS TO BE EVEN MORE AMAZING... Seat repaired Dings on roof fixed new headliner(current one looks great and slits are barely noticeable), but may need to be replaced if dent repairs require it. new tires rattle fixed new carpet new weatherstripping Only reason I would ever suggest a paint job is for either Show winning resto or a color change. Paint job is still high gloss and void of many defects. It was done very good 13 years ago.
