Vehicle Detail
My loss, is your gain. Bought this 1996 VW Cabrio off EBAY a little over a year ago for my teenage daughter to use. Spent three months doing extensive rebuild and fixing all the issues to give her an extremely reliable and safe car. So of course 8 months and 7,000 miles later, she gets a new job and a brand new car. Hate to get rid of this one, but someone is going to get a great deal on a car that has all the important stuff already fixed/replaced The Good, work that I did. (over $2000 of new parts on the car, I build for her to use all thru college without worrying about things going wrong) ah joys of parenting Complete new front and rear suspension including new struts, mounts, bellows, ball joints, tie rods, rear wheel bearingsFour new Faulken Ziex ZE912 tires all around, with approx 5,000 miles. Alignment was done all tire near like new with no abnormal wear.Front Brake Rotor, pads, hoses.Replaced PowerSteering rack, and power steering pump, refilled with new VW FuildComplete new exhaust. Downpipe, Catalytic Converter, front and rear mufflers, and two new O2 sensors. Exhaust is new from the header back!New Serpentine BeltNew Timing BeltNew Water Pump, and coolant flangeNew Oil pan gasketNew Gas Cap and Evap Purge valueAll fluids replaced. Transmission, brake, coolant, power steering. Full tuneup with new plugs and wires.New Heater core and HVAC blend doors fixed (see below about potential issue with this)New Ignitions SwitchNew Shift linkage bushings (fixed slop in shifter) slide smoothly into all gears.New VW seat bushings (stops seats from rocking in tracks) Engine went through extensive testing runs great (compression test was near perfect)Rust fixed at the back corner of both front fenders. Bad VW design drain clogs up with leaves and holds wet leaves against back of fender. All rust cut out and new sheet metal welded in, skim coated with body filler. PA inspected thru end of year. As far as I know will need nothing. The bad: Rust repair areas are primed black, and there are several chips and scratches in the paint. Looks good driving by on road, but up close paint is tired. I had planned on re-painting (obviously with all the work done above) but since daughter doesn't want car anymore it will get sold as is.Title is marked "NOT ACTUAL MILEAGE". If you look at the car check report you will see where the issue was and strongly suggests that actual mileage is VERY close to what is currently on the odometer.Car has sat for three months since she bought new car, as I considered if I wanted to paint before I sold it. When I started it up after sitting a couple minor issues came up and I simply want to be done with car so selling as is, but want to let you know. First: Heat and AC were working perfect, and AC still comes on, but cable from the HVAC controls to blend door is stuck, so heat is staying partially on. Even with AC on air coming out of vents is only cool to warm (confirmed AC compressor is working). But to get 100% functional you would likely need to replace this cable from the controls to blend door. At least that is what I believe to be the cause, was able to confirm cable is binding. As said above heater core and blend doors were already fixed (common VW issue where foam comes off blend doors causing HVAC issues). Transmissions shift and drives smoothly, but upon driving this morning (first time in three months) there was a little whine in reverse. Fairly common when a transmission sits for a little while, and will likely go away after a week or so of driving (manual transmission fluid was replaced when I got the car). Other thoughts: With a little bit of work would be a really sharp fun reliable car. If my driveway wasn't steep I would have lowered the car (need the ground clearance). But with all new suspension you could cheaply put on a set of lowering springs, already new struts so don't really need coil-overs. Car is also a perfect candidate to be plasti-dipped!! Think these old MK3 VW's can look pretty good with a flat plati-dip paint job for not a lot of $$$. Those two things and a good detail and cleaning up interior you would have a really sharp, reliable, fun to drive car. All that said, this is Ebay, so car is of course sold as-is where-is. Car is for sale locally, so reserve the right to end auction early. Can also show car if you want to come look at it in person. I just want the car gone, and figured will just let EBAY set the price. Got a new project car to start on and need this one gone! Great car!
