Vehicle Detail

This car is a 1979 model year! Obviously it is not a Jaguar XKE, but has Jaguar components. These incredible cars were created in the 1970's by Panther Westwinds as a tribute to the 1937 Jaguar 100 SS. They were fitted with the Jaguar drivetrain, which at that time was the 4.2 in-line six cylinder. More importantly in that they were made completely of aluminum. The bodies were such a piece of art that they were awarded with a commendation. There were very few made, and were mainlyt owned by wealthy people in their era. This particular car still sports the original paint, original drivetrain, and also original interior. The dash is made of wood, and requires a restoration to be perfect! I personally like the patina. I believe there were only 368 produced. The J.72 was the first product of the Panther Westwinds company, sold from 1972 through 1981. It was an ultra-exclusive luxury roadster, intended to compete with the best of the 1970s motor industry. It used mechanicals from the XJ12, including the 5.3 L Jaguar V12 engine, and was styled like the Jaguar SS100. The J.72 was also offered with the 3.8 L and 4.2 L XK engines. The J.72 was a success for the small company, with its Connolly coachwork beating Rolls-Royce at the 1973 London Motor Show. The car was purchased by a number of celebrities. 368 were produced in all..This car also sports distinctive cow seats, chrome wire wheels, louvered hood, and long flowing fenders. This vehicle is very unique and will command a great deal of attention. If you are not into attention then this is not the car for you! I bought this car about five years ago. This car drives terrifically! It moves out even with an automatic transmission. It idles well and everything works as it should except for the speedometer, and the ignition key. The key is currently stuck in the ignition switch! It still works to start and drive the car, however I would certainly recommend that the ignition switch be replaced. It has a great high quality canvas top and side curtains. I had the top up once just to see how it looked. The car has old Pirelli tires which are due for replacement. I wouldn't be surprised if they were the original tires. There is one slight scratch on the rear fender from when I hit a small rock wall when parking. One of the front bumpers has been repaired, but hardly noticeable. The windshield has a small crack at the top, but it goes in a square and has not spread since I owned the car. This car still has all the original smog equipment for a 1979 and should be compliant in California. The front wheels look like they are due for an alignment as the front tires are wearing on the inner edges. This is a great fun fast car! It is perfect for touring to the country for a picnic! It handles well and is great fun to drive. I think with a little TLC it could be a show stopper.
