Vehicle Detail
1968 Mustang Fastback C-code. Restored to be a street driven car, not a show car. Nit picky number crunchers please move on. While I can and do appreciate that aspect, this is not a car for you. I bought this car partially restored. It sat for many years in a barn, then sat again for many years while the guy I bought it from worked on it. He was inept and gave up on it and I bought it. I corrected all his mistakes, completed the assembly, then took the car to the next level. I have spent more than two years and spent way more money than I expected to get it to where it is now, but i can't fix stuff half way. It is 97% done but I have to move on as I have another car waiting for assembly. When you read through what's been done, you will understand where the money went. It needs minor finishing and the things it needs are listed below. I strongly encourage you to contact me via email and leave your phone number so I can call you back and provide a detailed overview. I'm an honest guy and will tell you anything you want to know but understand you will need to put the final touches on this car. I do not recommend driving it home. It has not been road tested other than a few miles. With this said, here is what has been done to the car plus a lot of other stuff I've likely forgotten.. Period correct rebuilt 289 lightly built with small cam, Edelbrock polished aluminum intake, and 4V carb. Period correct rebuilt C4 trans. Rebuilt 9" 3.25 Detroit Locker posi rear. Front suspension all rebuilt to include new upper and lower ball joints, new inner and outer tie rod ends, new shocks and new front springs. Power brake system all rebuilt to include new disk brake calipers, rotors, pads, wheel bearings and races, hard lines, soft lines, rear drums, shoes, wheel cylinders, and hardware kits. Rebuilt power steering system to include new pump, new lines, new slave cylinder, and rebuilt power valve. New turn signal switch harness, engine, starter, and alternator wiring harnesses, New U-joints front and rear. New fuel tank with new sender unit and new power lead. New interior to include new foam, new seat covers, new carpet, new headliner, new door panels, new window fuzzies, new door handles and window cranks, new front and rear windshield glass seals, new door, window, and jamb seals. Replaced console slider and put new bushings in the shifter. All interior lights work, even the console shift indicator light. New exhaust system front to back with headers and Flow Master mufflers and chrome splitters. All glass is tinted Ford except for the windshield which is new. Has all new fog light system including lamps, wiring and switch. New window regulator on driver side. New bumpers front and rear, gas cap, taillight housings and lenses. Recored radiator with new hoses and new transmission hard lines. The bodywork was done before I got the car. The quarters were replaced (not to my standards but ok for a street driven car). Paint looks better in pictures because there is some orange peel here and there but shines nice and is a killer color on the car. It was originally a light blue. Quarters were not cut for sidelights so it has the cleaner look of the 67. I have the sidelights and they will go with the car. Fenders are original as are the doors and hood. Floor pans were replaced but not to my standards. Shock towers and cowl are all rust free. The floors, interior wheel wells and quarters, and doors are lined with Dyna-mat to quiet the car. As you can tell, a lot of time and money went into this car but the restoration is not quite complete. Here are the issues I know about. Trim is nice except left vertical windshield trim and it is missing the bottom trim piece on the rear window. I haven't been able to find that. The rest of the trim is very good street quality. The speedometer is inop. It has a new cable and I tested the speedometer head before installing it so I know it works. I suspect it has a bad speedo gear. The oil pressure gauge is inop. The gas gauge and alternator gauge work fine. It is missing the emblem in the center of the steering wheel pad. Doors and windows need some minor adjustment. The trim pieces on the headliner by the rear window need to be installed. I have the pieces. The fog light system doesn't work. The lights, wiring and switches are new but I can't seem to get them to work. It will need a front end alignment. There is a scratch on the drivers door and two other small dings where prior owner did stupid stuff. There is a quart of matching paint that goes with the car. The hood turn signals do not work. Again, all wired up but I can't figure out why they won't work. Electrical is not my strong suite. The car had A/C from the factory but it is not currently installed in the car. I have most, if not all, of the under-hood components in unrestored condition for the system plus many spare parts. The under-dash A/C components were installed along with new vacuum lines in preparation for restoring and installing the under-hood components. A bunch of extra assorted parts will go with the car. An extra vintage Ford 289 engine, complete except for the water pump, is available to the buyer at extra cost. Terms are simple. Don't bid if you can't pay... period. Payment in full in cash is expected before the car can be released. A $500 non-refundable deposit is expected within 5 days of the end of the auction. I do not export. If you have less than five feedbacks, email me before bidding or I will cancel your bid. You are responsible for any and all shipping. No warranty is expressed or implied. I am happy to help load. The car runs and stops fine so loading will be a snap. PLEASE... call with questions before bidding.
