Vehicle Detail
My wife and I have a really cool old 1956 Plymouth Plaza for sale. We really don't want to sell it, but the family race car needs a new transmission and driveshaft, so we are going to offer our family cruiser up for sale this one time. I am going to do one 7 day auction. If it doesn't sell, so be it. This car will not be advertised anywhere else. Not on craigslist. Not on Classic car trader. Not on racing junk. I am not even advertising it for sale locally. If the car sells, We actually would prefer it not sell locally, because we really don't want it to go. I wouldn't want to run into it at car shows, cruise nights, etc... This old Plymouth is an original North Dakota car, but I pulled it out of a barn in Stacy MN 4-5 years ago. It had been sitting for decades under a car cover. The daughter of the original owner had put it there after her Dad died. It was not running, The brakes were locked up. The old bias ply snow tires were shot. I was told it had seen very little use since the 70's. The cool thing about this Plymouth is the fact that it is a Plaza. The base model offered by Plymouth. It is a bare bones business coupe model. No radio, no arm rests, no fancy exterior trim. The only accessory it seemed to have was a cigarette lighter (unless that was standard on all models). Yet this Plaza had the biggest V8 offered (except the 303 in the Fury), and the automatic transmission. What an odd combo! The car is originally black with the white top. The interior was redone in the mid to late 80's? The front clip must have been replaced at some point, because you can see pink paint under some of the paint chips on the fenders. I think this old Plaza had an interesting early life before being retired to the barn. When I got the car, it even had a rear tow bar installed on it, with on of the bracket on it being broken. I wonder what the old guy was pulling around with it? If old cars could talk...I bet this one would have stories! When I pulled the old girl out of the barn (which was no easy task), I drug it on my trailer and pulled it home. She got new Firestone bias ply tires mounted on her sandblasted and painted original wheels. New brake shoes all the way around. New wheel cylinders all the way around. New shocks all the way around. I drained the fuel tank and blew out the lines to make sure they were not full of rust. New battery, new battery cables, a new belt. Fresh plugs, using the original awesome plug wires, fresh points, condensor, and coil. The engine was loose, so I dumped the oil, changed the filter and filled her up with fresh 10w30. Before I tried starting it up I left the coil wire unplugged and cranked her over a couple seconds at a time to try and get the oil pump to circulate the fresh oil before it started. After doing that several times, I hooked up the coil wire, and she started like it was 1960! Awesome! It runs very well. I really don't believe the engine has ever been touched. I haven't even tried to clean or paint anything up because it just looks as it should for being 58 years old and barely touched. The head lights, tail lights, turn signals, brake lights, gauges, speedo, dash lights, cigarette lighter (to charge yer cell phone) all work! The horn works intermittently, and the dome light does not work. We have probably put around 10,000 miles on it the last 4-5 years. She has been awesome to us, and never left us stranded. The old girl does have some bondo in the passenger side front fender, and I believe some in the rocker panels. It is not perfect. It was a North Dakota car for most of the time it was used, so it's much better than MN, WI, or other states that love to salt the roads in winter, but it is not a desert car. The master cylinder is starting to go, I think. The accelerator pump in the 2bbl carb is going, so you have to pump the pedal a bit, and the passenger side door glass is cracked. I will try to replace the master cylinder before the end of the auction. The door glass is just flat, so it can be cut by any place that does windows. Please excuse the dust and dirt. We live on a gravel road, about 2 miles off pavement. Overall this has been a great car for us. If it sells, we are going to miss it greatly. I will sell internationally, and will assist however I am able in the shipping process. Shipping costs will be the responsibility of the auction winner. The Minnesota collector plates stay with me. There is no warranty on this old girl. Just an cool, old, rare car. Reasonable reserve set. Good luck!
