Vehicle Detail

1985 Merceds-Benz 380SL This is a well preserved and original 1985 Mercedes 380SL with 133,000 miles on the odometer. It is a two-family car with factory paint. This 380 has never been in an accident, and has always been kept garaged and covered. It looks great and drives even better. Mechanically Sound & UpdatedOn 6/24/2011, at 127,900 miles, the car's V8 underwent over $3,200 of work. This included the replacement of all timing guide rails, the timing chain, both headgaskets, the valvetrain, all spark plugs, and the oil pan gasket. The 3.8 liter power plant now runs great and has about 6,000 miles on the new top end. Detailed receipts for the work are available. The tan leather interior is in good original condition with no rips or tears. The soft top and battery were both replaced in 2012. The car has four Michelin tires, and the original spare in the trunk looks like it's never been touched. The automatic transmission shifts smoothly, and the car has a newer Pioneer CD player with auxiliary input. Full Disclosure of ConditionIt is a 1985, and as such it's not perfect. The finish on the wheels show some flaking, and some of the exterior plastics aren't as black as they used to be. The air conditioning has been converted to R134, but a hose has two pinhole leaks. Quoted at $300 to repair. The driver's side door hinge is noisy. A piece single piece of trim is missing from the front right of the car. The dashboard has a small one inch crack/tear along the seam behind the gauge cluster. There is absolutely no rust. The steering rack has some play in it, but nothing unexpected from a car of this age. The car brakes quietly, stops quickly, and doesn't pull in either direction. Still Turning HeadsOn the whole, the car is in remarkable shape. It's an unrestored classic in outstanding mechanical condition that will drive anywhere at any time and look great doing it. It's a pleasure to look at, sit in, and drive. Don't miss it.
