Vehicle Detail
A rare 1982 Mercedes Benz 300 SD Turbo Diesel Exceptionally well maintained...Temperature controlled garage kept! The new Mercedes W126 sedan debuted in 1981 as the replacement to the very successful W116 series. Its bold styling was courtesy of Bruno Sacco. They simultaneously paid homage to the previous platform while exhibiting a more muscular presence and better aerodynamic efficiency than its predecessor. This car also weighed in 500 pounds lower boosting its fuel economy to 30 mpg on the highway. The 300 SD was the North America only auto of this platform featuring the legendary OM617 3.0L Inline 5 cylinder turbo diesel engine (basically the best engine ever built). This is a fine example of this sedan. I am the 2nd owner of this car. After the original owner passed away, it sat for 6 years in his son's garage. That son is a personal friend and sold it to me. Througout the 8 years of my ownership, over $30,000.00 has been spent to get it to its current excellent running condition and looks. I doubt another similar SD could be found in as good of mechanical condition. Easier would be to find similar SDs for $7 to $10K needing $15K to $20K in work to return them to somewhat similar condition as this beauty. If you're familiar with these SDs, you know that they're great cars to drive. Getting the mechanical work done RIGHT is expensive and EXPERT mechanics are not an easy find. I would welcome the op to provide you with the number to my mechanic at Black Forest Benz to expound upon my history of repairs and restoration. This has been one of my favorite of the Mercedes that I own but having 2 summer rides (aside from vintage motorcycles) has become a bit much to store for a hobby in our Midwest home. It has 98,000 miles on the odometer. This is low for this famed engine. Similar W126 diesels, I've seen are gracing roads with 500,000 to 1 million miles! FEATURES original turbo diesel engine and transmissionoriginal Becker stereo restored and rebuilt with an addition of an iPod dock (the cassette deck does not work ... and actually the ONLY thing that I know of that isn't functioning in the car.)climate control power windows4-wheel disc brakes original wheels - New tires purchased 2013.original owner’s manual & maintenance booklet Euro bumpers and headlights added 2010. Now the car looks exactly the way Mercedes designed it in 1980 in Europe! ******************************************************************************************************************************************************************** EXTRA PARTSI had a similar SD stripped for parts in 2012 (numerous items; windows, trim, etc). Sale OR inclusion of these is negotiable based upon selling price of auto. ********************************************************************************************************************************************************************REPAIRS n' RESTORATION Extensive efforts to restore, repair and maintain have been made. I have receipts. All repairs made by Black Forest Benz in Milwaukee, Wisconsin - THE GOLD STANDARD for antique Mercedes repair in the Midwest. Below is a list of 'major' ones. * New brakes front and rear 2013 * Speedometer rebuilt and restored 2013 * Original transmission rebuilt 2012 * A/C rebuilt and restored * Diesel fuel injection rebuilt 2009 ******************************************************************************************************************************************************************** STATSYear1982MakeMercedes-BenzModel300SDVinWDBCB20AXCB031520Miles98,109Engine Size3.0 Inline 5Transmission TypeAutomaticBody ColorMetallic GrayExterior ColorTanDrivetrainRWD PAINT: The overall paint is primarily original. The bumpers and bottom panels were repainted with the addition of the found Euro bumpers in order to match the car. It has NEVER been in accident. The original owner purchased the car in retirement and used it primarily to drive back and forth to his Florida winter home. In his ownership, he had put a couple small dings that upon my ownership, were professionally repaired to exact match the original paint. I've since kept an eye on scratches etc; having them taken care of immediately to avoid rust and of course to keep it looking sweet. A fine car of timeless styling and with a long life ahead.
