Vehicle Detail
Normal 0 false false false EN-US JA X-NONE 1971 Volvo P1800E notch coupé This brilliantly styled and functional Sports GT touring car is a wild step from today’s typically boring Volvo’s. In fact if any Volvo ever had a soul of a sports car this was it. In 1970 Volvo did it final itineration of their Sports Coupe, the P1800E, with a new B20E fuel injected engine and updated refinements. These P1800’s were the best of the 1800’s 12-year lifespan and were built in the Volvo facility in Gothenburg Sweden. These well-engineered cars have travelled many miles, with several example eclipsing a million miles. The last generation B20E was a 1986 cc fuel injected workhorse with it 5 bearing mains and cast iron block. And it was also one of the first with proper electronic fuel injection. Mated to the M41 4 speed with electric overdrive, they had plenty of power to scoot down the highway. This stunning example is the result of a yearlong restoration with full paint and interior. The Dark green (94) paint is the original color and complements the light tan saddle interior. This was a rust free car that was found in a estate here in Oregon. The prior owner was a big P1800 aficionado. The car was store properly in his barn with the wheels of the ground and the fuel out of the tank. His storage area was well organized with lots of spare parts for his beloved P1800E Coupe. Though it had not been on the road since 2000 (as you can see from the original Oregon Blue Plates), after cleaning the fuel system and changing all its fluids, it fired right up and ran smoothly and with out smoke. We then sent the car out for a fresh coat of the correct green paint and had all the chrome bright work re-chromed, polished and straightened. All the stainless steel body side moldings we took to a hotrod specialist who removed the dings and re-polished them like new. This really makes all the difference on these cars. The interior was in pretty decent shape, however to match the impressive exterior the seats had to match the rest of the body. The front seats were recovered and re-stuffed to make them just like when they came off the line in Sweden. The car had steel wheels when we found the car. But in the collection of parts were a set of the optional Alloy mags with steel outers. Volvo, in their catalog called these “Safety Rings” since alloys were a pretty new thing, and a big step for the safety conscious Volvo brand. We fitted new tires of the proper size for the right look and ride. We also went through the brake system and cooling system. After fresh tune up and the car was ready to go. Driving this car gets lots of attention and looks; it’s a wild departure from your typical Volvo experience. As far as collectability; with relative low production numbers and rust issue in many cars that did not survive, they are a safe bet for increased value in the future. This is an excellent example, but we encourage inspections prior to end of auction. We are happy to assist with worldwide shipping. Please look at all of the 143 photos we took of the car, to see with your own eyes how nice of a car this. Call 503 475 8078 Josh or 503 819 9007 Matt for details Good Luck!!!
