Vehicle Detail

This is a 2 owner 1970 Mustang Grande. Not all hardtops were Grandes, as some think. The Grande was a unique package, like the Mach1 or Boss. In fact, in 1970 Ford began using a new VIN coding system for specific models (except Boss). The identifier for the Grande was “04”, and the first five digits of the VIN on this car are read as follows: 0T04H- 0=1970, T=Metuchen, NJ (assembly plant), 04=Grande (package), H=351-2V (engine)This jewel has been sitting for about 20 years in a garage. The lady who owned it was the second owner. She told me she bought it from a dealer in 1973, and it was the first car she learned to drive on. Her husband parked it in the garage about 20 years ago, and then unfortunately he passed away and the car has been sitting ever since. The car is very complete, and original at 44 years old, and indeed a rare find. I've been collecting, and trading Fords for nearly 40 years and have seen very few 70 Grande Mustangs. Today you would be lucky to find one this complete and original. In 1970 everyone wanted a Mach1, or a Boss 302....trust me, I was there! The car is wearing mostly original paint. It is Black Jade, with a Dark Ivy Green interior, and black vinyl top. In 1970 Ford started putting the high-back bucket seats in all the Mustangs and Cougars. The seats have the houndstooth inserts. The car has the deluxe interior package with full length console. The headliner is in excellent condition, and looks original. The dash pad looks pretty good too, but not perfect... Mileage is reading 89,909, and I believe this to be correct, but can't prove it. Most cars from 1970 would not make it to 189,909 without a major overhaul, and this car looks too original. The engine is the 351W-2V, and looks very original, including the air cleaner and carb which still has the original ID tag in place. The AC compressor and hoses are original. The engine turns over easily by hand, not even needing a wrench to turn it (I did take the plugs out though). I made no attempt to start the engine. If you are going to restore the car, you would rebuild and detail the engine anyway. The trans is automatic, I think it's the FMX, and was overhauled in 1985. The original 1985 reciept and warranty for the trans rebuild are with the car. The rear axle is the 9”. The brakes are standard drums all the way around....easy to convert these days to 4 wheel disc. The steering is power. Overall the floors are very good, but the driver's rear pan will need replaced for sure. On these cars the seal between the door and rear side windows tends to leak. The water gets under the carpet and rusts the floor from the inside out. The lower rear quarters of course need replaced and the trunk drop-offs. The passenger side front torque boxed is rusted. This is a common item and new replacements are available. The frame rails look excellent. The doors look solid underneath, but the outer skins will need attention. The doors open and close easily, and the windows roll up and down. It appears the passenger fender and door were replaced in the past, but I don't see any evidence of a major collision. Looks pretty straight. There's a rust spot on the passenger side trunk floor that needs repaired. Under the hood the inner aprons look solid, but will need a couple small patches. Surprisingly the original, and important 'BUCK TAG' is still in place on the passenger apron (see pics), amazing and beautiful!! The radiator support is solid. This car is too rare, complete, and original to part out- it really deserves a full concours restoration. It would look so awsome with perfect Black Jade paint and a new set of Magnum 500 wheels!!! I have clear title and I also have the original title from the second owner, dated 1973! Also have the original owner's manual! There is a very good chance the original factory build sheet is under the carpet, seats, or dash somewhere. Normally I would pull everything out to search for the build sheet, but on this one I'm leaving the thrill of discovery for the next owner. Same for the Marti Report. We know what this car is, and that it's pretty much original, so I will let the next owner order the Marti on it. The car is a rare find. Would love to restore it myself, but I have several others to work on, including a 69 Sportsroof I need to finish.... Please email or call with questions. I have 35+ years experience with Fords and Mercs of the 60s and 70s, and can answer nearly any question you may have.Tom757.581.4119 $500 NON-REFUNDABLE DEPOSIT BY PAYPAL REQUIRED.
