Vehicle Detail
1951 Chevy 1/2 ton five window pickup. Clean rust free desert sheet metal. 350 small block Chevy engine with Edelbrock carb and automatic transmission. Modern rear differential, maybe Camaro. Has the original straight axle and steering box. I have five of the 47-53 trucks, most of them 5 windows. I buy only sheet metal from the desert Southwest and this is the most rust free truck I have ever seen. Zero rust anywhere on the truck. The truck is also virtually dent free. There is one area about 6" wide on the driver's front fender that looks like it was dented along the lip of the fender and someone put in body filler. I would probably have put a hammer and dolly to it but it is paint ready as it is if you didn't want to bother, I just don't like bondo filled repairs. Other than that I don't see any signs of previous damage and subsequent repair. The grill/hood and tailgate are off a GMC of this same 47-53 series of trucks, not sure why but with 60 year old trucks it is hard to say why or when. I have a Chevy hood and grill available if someone wants to swap them out. Bed wood and metal strips are all there but look original and need replaced. Interior is all there but also needs redone. Good seat frame and springs so it is an easy seat cover job. One of the reasons I focus on these trucks is the minimal cost of interiors, basically a seat recover, install carpet and headliner panel and paint the dash and doors. The truck is in my garage in Las Vegas. I drove it 30 miles home from Henderson NV and it ran great. I shredded a tire on the drive home and the tires are all shot and need replaced so I haven't driven it since except to move it around my place just to keep it moving. Dried out tires from the heat are one downside to desert vehicles but rubber is easy to replace compared to sheet metal. I have more projects than I need and have moved my shop to South Georgia so I am not going to spend the money to ship it there to restore it.
