Vehicle Detail

I'm the second owner of this very original white exterior, black interior, 13B rotary powered, 4 speed 1974 Mazda Rx4. The car is also factory equipped with air conditioning but the AC doesn't work. Adult owned since bought off the lot in 1974. This car is a true survivor and like they say a car is only original once. The biggest reason I'm finally selling this car is I don't have indoor storage for it any longer due to too many cars. This Rx4 should really continue to be cared for properly or placed in a collection. This Rx4 was purchased by the original owner from a Tri-cities Washington Mazda dealership. He drove it until the mid 80's when the apex seals failed (go figure). The Mazda dealership installed a new factory 13B since the engine was under warranty. During the warranty process and repairs on the Rx4 he purchased a new Honda. Once the Rx4 engine was replaced and the car was returned he parked it in his garage and occasionally drove it. Look at the engine warranty information and the miles on the odometer it has less than 20,000 miles on the factory/dealer engine exchange. I bought the Rx4 in the summer of 2011 when the original owner bought a new car and was parking the Honda in the garage leaving the Rx4 to be stored outside under a high end car cover. He didn't want the car to be stored outside for winter so he decided to sell it. The original owner is very educated and had an awesome career (he is retired now) so he was able to care for the Rx4. The gentleman is also very particular, anal, OCD however you want to say it. Anytime the Rx4 needed service he took it to the Mazda dealership. I have a stack of service records from the dealership almost as thick as two fingers. He also dated the air cleaner, oil filter and other service with one of those hand held tape type labelers each time they were changed. Before selling it to me he took it to the dealership and had a full inspection. The brake master cylinder, slave cylinder and brakes were serviced. It had a slight vibration that ended up being the tires separating from being so old. I replaced the propeller shaft U-joints, rear shocks, had an alignment and put different rims with new tires on. If you like there are 3 sets of rims that go with the car. The original rims with the tires removed, another set that had studded tires on them but the tires have been removed and a set of aftermarket rims with tires that have less than 1,000 miles on them. This car isn't without it's character flaws but remember it's unrestored. It's a survivor for you to restore as you wish or keep it as a survivor. The first thing needing attention in my opinion is the trunk area. A class 3? trailer hitch was bolted on so he could tow a small trailer to carry lawn mowers once the Rx4 became his secondary car. The trunk shows a lot of rust and pinholes so I think the entire trunk area should be replaced but it's your call. The car doesn't have any other critical areas of rust because it's spent it's whole life in the desert here in Richland Washington. The interior is amazing with some minor flaws. The dash has 2 large cracks with smaller branching out, the front drivers seat has a small hole. One small crack in the instrument cluster surround (I need to get a pic). The lower left section of the dash where the choke knob and hood release is needs attention (can be seen in one of the pics). I wouldn't hesitate to drive this car anywhere, when I first bought it I enjoyed driving it every day for the whole summer. The car would make a great daily driver, kept as a survivor or base for a restoration. I recommend you personally inspect the car or have an independent inspection before bidding. The car is located in Richland Washington 99352 and can be driven to either Seattle Washington (approximately 200 miles away) or Portland Oregon (approximately 220 miles away) for shipping after full payment has been converted to cash. All shipping arrangements should be researched prior to bidding and are the responsibility of the new owner. I will assist with any reasonable requests that are arranged prior to bidding including the possibility of driving the car to Seattle or Portland for delivery. On Jun-23-14 at 15:09:08 PDT, seller added the following information: I uploaded a video of when I first bought the Rx4 and wanted to know how fast it would go. I went from 70 MPH to 125 MPH in 4th gear. I think it would go faster with a 5 speed. The video can be found here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uQTEJY3WCXA&feature=youtu.be I'll upload a walk around video when I get time. Thanks for your interest and God Bless!
