Vehicle Detail
Here's an opportunity to buy a very original Mk 1 Stag showing just 38,000 miles since new. I bought this example in December after a lengthy search for one with an original engine, manual, A/C, wire wheels, and no rust issues! I travelled from Florida to upstate New York to inspect this one and it is definitely a fine example of an uncorrupted Stag. The car had been stored for about 20 years from the early 1990s and was mechanically/cosmetically gone through in 2013. The previous owner, a Stag enthusiast from England, went through the car from bonnet to boot, replacing/refurbishing parts where necessary. The vehicle comes with a portfolio of receipts dating back to 1973 when the car was Ziebarted against rust. The interior is mostly original including British Leyland radio, crackles and all! The driver's side carpet and new parcel shelf have been replaced. I am the 4th owner. A brand new A/C system was installed in December with modern components for easy recharging purposes. The car also comes with a factory-correct new black soft top(3-window mk1) and body color-matching hard top. The car really needs nothing. There are a few minor dings here and there probably from long-term storage and the clock, replaced in 1986, does not work. I understand replacement clocks are available, but most Stag owners seem to replace it with an oil pressure gauge. This engine has been carefully gone through and includes new timing chains, engine mounts, a valve job, seals, and new exhaust. The ignition, fuel, transmission, steering, brakes, suspension, cooling systems, and hardware were all overhauled and have many new components, too numerous to list. The engine does not overheat even in the Florida heat. If you want as close to an original Stag as you can get, this is it. What makes this a particularly nice example is that it was treated against rust when almost new and its repair history is well documented. Also the Mk 1 Stags were built with thicker gauge steel than later models. Please arrange to have the vehicle inspected if you're a serious bidder as I don't want any disappointments. The Triumph Stag USA web site has a section on what to look for when buying a Stag if you're not familiar with this model's early reputation! If you're new to ebay or have a less than a stellar rating please contact me before bidding. Life's circumstances result in this reluctant sale. On May-21-14 at 12:36:15 PDT, seller added the following information: In answer to several queries, the VIN is LE 7935 L. The Trim ID is 43 and the paint is 55 (Laurel Green.) Yes, it is the original paint with some touch-ups over the years. I believe Triumph only used this color for the 71 model year. I apologize. I should have included the VIN on the description. The VIN is visible on the Ziebart certificate photo. Thanks.
