1972 Porsche 911S Targa. Here is another unfortunate case of a "cheap" older 911 being updated in an attempt to have an '80s turbo cabriolet. It seems that we get lots of cars like this, but I still cringe when I think what it would look like if the former owners had the good sense to leave well-enough alone. This particular 72S was the 13th built in late 1971. We have not pulled a COA on it yet, but from the paint tag I can tell that it was originally Metallic Gold. The conversion was done to a high standard and will provide some offset to the cost of sourcing appropriate bits from another early car. Fortunately, the oil door and associated parts were not removed and are still in use. The car is generally solid as it's been in California for many years. All of the gaps are nice and there is no rust in the floors or rockers. The front suspension pan is tired and will need to be replaced. This car is being sold WITHOUT a motor. The original motor was long gone when this car came to us. It still has a mag case 915 gearbox that is in good working order. The original gauges are in place as are some original interior bits. Given the rapid escalation in the values of 911S cars and this unit's early production date/unusual color, we have tried to price it so that a restoration will make both emotional and financial sense.
