Vehicle Detail
Up for Auction is the G-Rat 1957 MGA Convertible. Nice restoration piece or fix up slow and enjoy as is. Runs and drives pretty good. Here's the story I bought it in not running condition last year in Denver, I was told car had been parked and stored for 17 yrs, which I'm not sure of, the guy was selling because he no longer had indoor storage and I never had an MG. Car lover sickness. Once I got it home I saw that all the fuel lines were disconnected and the cooling system was dry. I drained the fuel tank and there was maybe a 1/4 gallon. Motor was repainted and pretty clean, I'm assuming rebuilt at some point. had oil in it. Clutch and brakes were not working. I installed a new Napa Battery and with a turn of the key, I hear an electric fuel pump. I push a button and it turned over. New fuel lines, some gas and she fired up, filled cooling system with water, let it idle, no leaks, drained water, added new hoses, cap and antifreeze. Changed Oil. Runs pretty good now, motor sounds tight and starts easy. Has not overheated. Clutch and Brakes. Replaced Master Cylinder and Brake Cylinders front and rear, along with a few lines. Bled system. Has great clutch now and good brakes. Brakes work well but still feels a little soft to me. Pads look good but maybe I'm not adjusting them right? I put on brand new tires and have driven it probably 25 miles since. Its cruise's right along, steering feels tight, shifts thru the gears great could probably use shocks. Interior carpet was shot so I pulled it out. Wood floors are solid, tunnel is clean, frame rails are solid, some surface rust. Speedo and Radio work. Lights work, Needs taillight and license plate bulb. Body is solid and pretty straight, see pics. Rust in right outer rocker and front of rear quarter passenger side, fenders, doors are nice, speakers are mounted behind driver and passenger and gas filler in trunk. Patch for filler neck is visible and could easily be put back to stock if restoring. Car was originally Red on Red. Top material is bad but all rails are in place. I also have the set of side windows in nice shape. Frame and underbody solid but dirty and showing surface rust. Frame is solid. Pretty good little MGA, restore or use as-is. Low reserve, bid to win! Second auction, car hit reserve last time but buyer backed out for no reason within 4 hrs, then I had two overseas guys waste my time for a week. I have been an ebayer for a long time and never backed out on an auction I won. These listings are not cheap and take some time to compile, so if you are going to bid, please have all your ducks in a row and ask questions ahead of time, be honorable and complete the sale. Here are two videos and a link to 90+ pictures of car. 2 Videos http://youtu.be/fBwPK-TN6Xw http://youtu.be/OHf5lkimhGk Photos http://s1362.photobucket.com/user/Fishintherock/library/1957%20MGA
