Vehicle Detail
Product Description You are bidding on a restored 1968 Dodge Charger R/T Clone This is one badass car. This is not Grandma's passed down 60's grocery getter. This car frightens little children, and, best of all, this car intimidates the hell out of rice burners who secretly suspect rear wheel drive UAW built 60's Detroit muscle is their ultimate threat to road supremacy. Remember who you rooted for in the original "Fast and Furious" movie. Forget numbers matching. This is not a trailer queen pretending to be 100% original. Nor is this a concourse restoration with pedigree, NOS parts, correct overspray, correct paint daubs, etc. and stuck with inefficient factory stock parts for the sake of "accuracy". This is a well trained Pit Bull and if you google "68 Dodge Charger", pictures of this very same car repeatedly come up on the first page. 1968-69 was the pinnacle year for the Charger, and this car accentuates all that is right with this styling. This laser-straight evil looking 68 Dodge Charger RT has been UPGRADED and merged with the best of 21st century technology, combined with the most highly sought after classic Mopar design elements - the unstoppable iconic big block, Cragars, Custom Fiberglass 6-Pack Hood, and an intimidating exhaust tone that lets everyone know you're front and center and not going to back down from any challenge. Electrical and wiring upgrades and improvements: All incandescent bulbs and lamp fixtures were rebuilt and upgraded to LED's. Rear tailights and backup lenses were completely rebuilt and upgraded to LED's. All new wiring throughout the car was upgraded and improved in every category. The original Rallye Dash gauge cluster was removed, each gauge rebuilt, relabeled, rescreened in white, and loaded with LED's. The clock was upgraded to a new electric quartz in the original housing and dial. The entire dash was removed, bead blasted, and repainted. All trim pieces were either repaired or replaced. A custom switch bar with a row of mini-toggle switches provides extra control. Headlight relays remove the current from the factory switches. New fuse blocks, relays, much heavier wiring installed throughout. Wired for radar detector. This is an original AC car. The antiquated AC was removed. The heater was rebuilt, re-cored, and rewired. The Audio system is highly customized with trunk woofers, extra power amp, high end door tweeters, and customized front left and right under-dash speakers. A trunk mounted sealed AGM battery was installed with a custom bracket High performance spark coil Built-in security system. Multicolored ground effects lights on the undercarriage. Heavier ground cables throughout, 3 times heavier battery cables front to rear. A built in trickle charger was added The traditional 3 gauge cluster was added below to add Voltage, Oil Pressure, and more accurate Water Temperature. Suspension upgrades and improvements: All left hand thread wheel studs were replaced making the car 100% right hand Every part removed during restoration was bead blasted, rust coated, and professionally painted. The front suspension was completely dissasembled, stripped and painted, and both bushings and all drum brakes completely rebuilt. New Poly-Urethane bushings throughout front end. New rear leaf springs were installed The sure-grip posi-traction 3:91 rear end was just rebuilt Torsion bars were replaced. Both axle bushings were replaced. Torque bars were added to eliminate wheel hop. Body upgrades and improvements: Once the body was massaged, the new Mopar Crystal Pearl Black was applied in a basecoat/clearcoat combination with mile-deep layers of clearcoat. Cragar 15" Wheels - 10" Rear with 8" front Once we worked down to bare metal, despite being a California car, we found rust in the quarters, and replaced both. Front and rear Bumpers are brand new. Every part removed during restoration was bead blasted, rust coated, and professionally painted. Custom lighter fiberglass hood with 6-pack scoop Tinted windows throughout including lightly tinted windshield for that blacked out look. All interior surfaces including the firewall received a layer of Dynamat for both heat shielding and sound reduction. Stainless steel trim was all converted to brushed finish. New headliner and padding installed. The sure-grip posi-traction 3:91 rear end was just rebuilt, and both axle bushing replaced. Floor panels were in great shape, and after bead blasting, received rust protective coating, dynamat to reduce heat and noise, and a jute pad under black carpet setting off the white bucket seats nicely. All wheel-wells are rustproofed and undercoated. Engine and drivetrain improvements: The engine has roller rockers. Freshly rebuilt 727 tranny with a shift kit. Power steering The original 318 was replaced with a blacked-out cam'd 383 Rectangular chrome exhaust tips. Carburetor is a freshly rebuilt Holley 750 CFM. Exhaust includes headers into 3" exhaust with Dynamax two chamber mufflers. Heavy duty U-Joints This car has vacuum actuated headlights. The dash switch works fine, and when lights are off, the headlight doors swing shut for that characteristic Charger blackout look. An outlaw switch (wink) will turn off the rear license plate illumination if needed. Wipers are available but removed. None of my cars ever see rain. Imperfections: - Some of the dash LEDS are burned out (I may replace these before sale) - Two barely visible 3/4" paint cracks on the side of the driver side fender - The gas gauge reads 1/4 tank lower than actual - Oil pan is dimpled - I went over a rock - The rear driver window is hard to crank up and needs to be greased again (I never roll up the windows so they get little use) Sample pictures of the restoration process Shipping and Handling Buyer is responsible for shipping arrangements and costs I will assist with coordination.
